Community Projection: Adam LaRoche

Here's the next entry in our Community Projection series. Here's how it works. We all guess how each player will do for the upcoming season, then review our average projections at the end, with recognition for the most accurate guessers for each player.

This thread is for Adam LaRoche. In the comments, post your guesses for LaRoche's 2009 batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage, in that order. For bonus points, you can also guess the date of LaRoche's tenth homer, you think he'll hit at least ten. Here are LaRoche's career stats.

If you haven't commented before, the community projections are a great way to introduce yourself and get started, so feel free to jump in.

Here are the results for Ryan Doumit:

NAME POS. COMMUNITY BONUS
Ryan Doumit C .289/.346/.477 115 games played

That'd be minor step backward from last year, mostly in his batting average, which makes sense. I might be a bit more pessimistic, but this isn't an unreasonable projection.

It may just be my typical spring optimism but . . .

I think this is the year that LaRoche starts performing at the beginning of the year.

Adam

See a trade deadline deal.

For the Pirates until then .282/.333/.484 – 10th homer on May 22.

Traded with John Grabow to the Giants for Emmanuel Burriss

Not loving that trade.

Not a big believer in Burriss.

I say

.273/.360/.515

32 HRs and 93 RBIs.

He gets big money from the KC Royals from 2010 and the Bucs use Pedro Alvarez at 1B.

AdLaroche will be close to his career line in '09

275/340/500

and he will hit HR #10 on July 17, in his first AB in the first (home) game after the All-Star break (vs. SF).

.273/.340/.492/May 10

Bizarro Laroche year. He blows up early, we trade him for a great return, and he tanks for the team he’s traded to and ends up with the line above which his exact career line.

Numbers with the Pirates: .298/.364/.565.

Big year, relatively speaking

.289 / .358 / .526

10 homer on May 26th

by sisyphus on Jan 15, 2009 1:10 PM EST reply actions

Actually...

if what DK is saying in the PG today is true and LaRoche starts hitting from April, he will go something like 305/360/520 easy.

by joegonzo on Jan 15, 2009 3:25 PM EST reply actions

.270/.345/.490

And traded on the deadline.

I’m going to be optimistic here.

Extremely optimistic on this one but whatever… If he puts up these numbers he’s gone at the deadline, which I think he will be.

Tenth HR May 9th. After a great start injury spoils his season.

I think he might have the type of fluke 29-year-old season that Nady had in 2008. Hopefully we take advantage of it and deal him for something valuable, like we did with Nady.

10th HR on June 1st.

10th HR on June 15th

I don’t think other teams will respect our lineup very much. Consequently, I don’t think LaRoche will get much to hit and his power will drop. However, if there ever was a time for him to break out of his early season funks then this is it. I think his early season thing is mental/psychological, and between him playing with his brother and being in a contract year, he will have as much chance to break out of it this season as he ever will. I think he’ll put up good numbers despite seeing fewer pitches to hit.

by houksyndrome on Jan 16, 2009 9:41 PM EST reply actions

Something new

LaRoche, inspired by the presence of his brother, starts off well and finishes with .287/,365/,565
