Pirates Sign Zach Duke, John Grabow, Tyler Yates
The Post-Gazette reports that the Pirates have avoided arbitration with Zach Duke, John Grabow and Tyler Yates, and that they will make $2.2 million, $2.3 million, and $1.3 million, respectively.
The P-G also points to the announcement that the Pirates will no longer wear those awful red uniforms. Yay!

Red Jerseys
I must be one of the only ones who liked them. I hope they bring back the all yellow ones from the 70s as the new alternate.
Get thee....
to a nunnery, the 23rd level of purgatory, or wherever else you choose, but please gouge my eyes out w/knitting needles before we bring back anything from the 70s and particularly not the canary yellow ones that made Bruce Kison look like Big Bird.

Getting rid of the tomato suits...
…is the best news I’ve heard all year.
You wanted reason for optimism? There it is. We may be awful, but at least we won’t look like clowns.
I think you guys are missing the big picture...
Zach Duke is going to make $2.2 million? Why? What is he being rewarded for? If his ERA is under 4.50 I’ll drive out to Pittsburgh (600 miles) and personally apologize to him.

For a major league team, $2.2 million is barely a blip on the big picture.

grabow
grabow will more than likely be traded by deadline to a contender anyways…
But Yates is making a million
I know times of changed but for that worthless pile of mound putty to make over a million is hard for me to cope with….thats an amount that took Mickey Mantle over a decade to make.
10 Quality Starts in a row/Aug. 08 - BUT now we can't hit:(
It Is Ridiculous...
but there’s this thing called “inflation”.
Mantle played 40 plus years ago.
That makes his $100,000 a year worth about $700,000 a year today (TOPS) given a 4% annual cost of living increase.
Do you think that the Players’ Association has outmanuevered ownership since the Players’ Association began under Pittsburgh’s own Marvin Miller in 1965?
Just a wee bit!
