PrintAccording to the AP . We picked him up at midseason in '79, in the deal where we added Bill Madlock and Lenny Randle, sending back Ed Whitson, Fred Breining, and Al Holland. We then sold him to the Mariners early the next year.
He wasn't a world-beater, but he had a pretty good career (stats here ), and he certainly didn't hurt us the year he won his ring. He was only 64, developing lung cancer as a result of asbestos exposure from offseason work as a boilermaker.
