At work today...
I waited on an nice elderly woman. As I was checking her vacuum in for its annual tuneup, I needed to ask her name, as it's not a while-you-wait service. She produced a receipt from a previous transaction, and her last name was Mackowiak. Of course, I asked if she was any relation, and it turned out she is his grandmother.
As it wasn't particularly busy (for the moment), I had the opportunity to chat with her for a few minutes, and told her of being a Pirates' fan, and how cool it was for him (and the Pirates) on that that fateful day in 2004. She lit up with pride for her grandson, and said "He's in Cleveland now," without mentioning (not knowing?) that he'd been released by the Tribe over the summer.
She also mentioned that he "loved coming home to play in Chicago, but really hated playing for Ozzie [Guillen], and that he'd rather play every day in the minors than sit on the bench making millions in the Majors," noting that his age and injuries may make that a probability for the future. She said "He just loves to play ball. He doesn't care where, or for who." I think he may get his wish, and we agreed that he might not play MLB again.
She also promised to have him send me an autographed photo, which I told her I would hang proudly next to Maz, Guy Carbonneau, Ray Nitschke, Patrick McGoohan, Jerry Vale, Orlando Merced & Ed Asner on my wall.
I'll post a pic if'n I get one.

Every time
I see “Patrick McGoohan” I get all excited, until I remember it was Patrick Macnee in the original “Avengers.” Mmmmmmm Mrs. Peel (the Diana Rigg version).
Also, I think in your case, cocktails, it goes without saying you’ll post an image if you get one.

Patrick McGoohan > Patrick Macnee
The Prisoner is the best.

McGoohan
was no slouch as Secret Agent Man / Danger Man, or as “Longshanks” in Braveheart, either.
Who doesn’t love a good defenestration?

If you ever get a chance
rent the DVD of McGoohan as The Scarecrow (Dr. Syn). It’s a Zorro, Scarlett Pimpernel kind of story about a preacher by day/pirate by night on the coast of England fighting the British navy. McGoohan creeped the hell out of me in this role.

And don’t forget he also starred in Howard Hughes favorite movie, Ice Station Zebra.
P.S. LOVE the Devo cover of “Secret Agent Man.”
Be seeing you.

Really unrelated but have you guys seen that they are remaking The Prisoner:
Long trailer here:

Looks awful in my opinion.
I made most of my life decisions at a Foghat concert... I stand by them.

The trailer doesn't look promising...
…but since it’s AMC, I’m willing to give it a look, at least.
Sir Ian probably has it in him to make a good #2, but Caviezel doesn’t do much for me, and I’m not crazy about some of the camerawork in the trailer.

Mackowiak did just fine for himself...
…as a 53rd-round pick. I’m always a sucker for that kind of story, when the guy who’s just supposed to be organizational filler plays his way into the majors.

What a cool story!
And I second Vlad’s comments above.

No, but as
“Secret Agent Man” (known as “Danger Man” in the UK), McGoohan got to work with Wendy Craig, Jean Marsh, Virginia Maskell, Jeanne Moody and a LOT of other hotties.
Did The Avengers theme song go to #3 on the charts? Secret Agent Man did. I’ll bet you know it, bucdaddy. ;-)

Bucdaddy:
Not to take anything away from Macnee. He was no slouch as Sir Dennis Eton-Hogg in This is SpiƱal Tap.

Tap into America!
“Secreat Agent Man” I know, of course, but damn if I can remember the “Avengers” theme. Must be online here somewhere …

Wow.
That’s some assortment of pictures you got there.
The only signed picture I have is of Mike Nelson of MST3K.

Nice story, cocktails
Thanks for sharing.
My dad met Neil O’Donnell’s brother and got him in touch with me – maybe he needs an architect. We’ll see about that, but the real question is whether I’ll be able to keep mum about Supe XXX: “Thanksgiving growing up must have been tough, what with your brother choking on big occasions like that.”
