This I Believe
I believe that the Pirates will be good one day.
I believe that Neal Huntington is on the right path.
I believe that Charlie Morton will make the McLouth trade look great.
I believe that Neal raked the Yankees over the coals with the Nady/ Marte trade.
I believe that Andy LaRoche will be an above average major league second basemen.
I believe that given enough talent John Russell will do fine as a major league manager.
I believe that Lastings Milledge will make the Morgan/ Burnett trade a steal.
I believe that Garrett Jones will hit 30 homeruns next year.
I believe that Cutch will be an all-star for years to come.
I believe that Hanrahan will be a quality closer.
I believe that Ross Ohlendorf will win 15 games next year.
I believe that a year from now we will have witnessed a measurable improvement at the major league level; 70 plus wins.
I believe that Pedro Alvarez will make an impressive major league debut next year.
I believe that what Neal has done over the last two years is discernibly from what the Pirates did for the previous fifteen; therefore I believe that the national media, that pays little attention to what the Pirates are actually trying to do, should shut their pie holes.
I believe that many Pirates fans will come back like they did at the of the 1988 season, when they see a young team gain momentum.
I believe that Cedeno will be a serviceable major league shortstop.
I believe that Duke and Maholm will both win 15 games in a season while wearing a Pirates uniform.
I believe that one day we will not have to give nick-names like “Wreck Specs” and “Black Hole” to Pirates players.
I believe that Jesse Chavez is becoming a quality set-up guy.
I believe that there is no other place on Earth I would rather be than PNC Park.
I believe I will witness the Pirates win their 6th world championship.
The Bible says “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” I choose to hope and believe because the Pirates have, and will always be, my favorite team. I have followed them closely since 1982, and I will never give up on them. Much of what I have stated above may not come to pass, but given the choice of being optimistic or pessimistic; I choose to believe that the Bucs will be good one day. This is a belief I will never give up on.

Yep.
I’m not ready to say that Tony Sanchez was the right pick for the Pirates. But he is making the Pirates look like they know what they’re doing. I just hope he keeps it up next year. It’d be great if he’s in Indy before the 2010 season is over.

My own additions...
I believe we will still give nicknames like “blackhole” to players once we are respectable.
I believe Tabata will win a batting title at least once.
I believe Gorkys Hernandez will be a good fourth outfielder.
I believe Danny Moskos will make us think Dave Littlefield wasn’t completely insane.
I believe Tim Alderson will regain velocity and fix his retarded delivery.
I believe Neil Walker will be a quality base coach one day.
I believe John Russel could do good with talent, but won’t get the chance to.
I believe D’arnaud will be our 2nd baseman of the future.
I believe Rudy Owens will be a good number 2 starter one day.
I believe ZVR will be our best pitcher in a few years.
I believe Randall Simon will try and take out the rest of the sausage gang or will start hunting dead presidents.
I believe that we will become prominent again in Latin america in the next few years.
I believe Ben Roethlisberger, Sidney Crosby, and Pedro Alvarez will make the best trio of athletes for any city one day.
I believe that Tanner Scheppers will blow out his arm again.
I believe the day that we win the World Series again Dave Littlefield will shed a tear and everything will be right with the world.

I believe....
that it’s Neal Huntington. Not Neil Huntington.

I believe maybe 70% of that stuff.
But I honestly admire your optimism.

70%?
He covers all position players but the catcher, 2 relievers, and 4 starting pitchers. That’s 14 players. 70% means that 1 reliever, 2 position players, and 1 pitcher will not pan out.
I can buy that. So we will need 2 starters (cough Lincoln, Alderson), 2 position players (i would say SS and 2B would be our main positions to fill, though Andy LaRoche may turn out well), and our bullpen needs help (but we will have Moskos, Dubee, and a ton of heat-throwing pitchers).
A solid shortstop/second baseman/ reliever shouldn’t be too hard to find via free-agency, but we need starting pitchers most. When we draft that “ace”, hopefully next year, we will be pretty well set.

I don't give a damn,
It doesn’t matter what you believe…..CAN YOU SMELLLLLLLL, WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING!?
haha
Just messing. The truth of the matter is that we’re still far away, but we at least have some players to look forward to watching.
Side note, any body watching these playoffs and seeing how well put together these teams are? How many perennial all star core players does a playoff team need(3-6)? How many above average players does a team need(4-8)? League average players(5-10)? And where are the Bucs now? 1, 4, & 5? Still work to be done, and injuries to avoid

I feel sorry
for people who don’t drink. When they get up in the morning, that’s as good as they’re going to feel all day.

By that logic...
We shouldn’t breath air because people f*** in it…

If you're f***ing air ...
you’re doing it wrong.

No, no, no.
We are surrounded by air, right? So when we f***, we are technically f***ing in the air. Fish don’t f*** the water, they f*** in the water. We don’t f*** the air, we f*** in the air.

Do I look all rancid and clotted? You look at me, Jack. Eh? Look, eh? And I drink a lot of water, you know. I’m what you might call a water man, Jack – that’s what I am. And I can swear to you, my boy, swear to you, that there’s nothing wrong with my bodily fluids. Not a thing, Jackie.

Somebody has to do it:
“Well, I believe in the soul… the c*ck…the p*ssy… the small of a woman’s back… the hangin’ curveball… high fiber… good scotch… that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent overrated crap… I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Great Post
I couldn’t agree more with everything you just said. I’ve been reading this blog forever, but have never signed up. As my first comment, I just want to say keep being optimistic. I live outside of Philly, and my buddies always get on me for liking the Buccos, and I defend them to the death. They will be good again. Patience is a virtue.
I was just in Pittsburgh visiting my girlfriend this weekend, and I always make it a point to visit the Pirates mural at Forbes. It just makes me proud to be a Pirates fan.
We are going to be very good in a few years. I’m very optimistic when looking at the Pirates future. As a senior in college getting ready to get my teaching certification after I graduate, the future worries me. For a good reason. I’m not going to be able to move to Pittsburgh until after the 2011 season. The Pirates have a very good chance of being good then. Which means season tix will be eaten up by 2012. Pittsburgh fans love jumping on a good team. Haha I now have the task of buying season tix and just eating the money, so that when I move out I have tickets!
I believe. The future looks bright. Thanks for the post! And Go Buccos!

If you buy season tix,
I would come to PGH 2x a year to attend games, and would buy them offa you.
Also, welcome aboard.
