Pirates vs. Reds, 2 October 2009

Pittsburgh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds, Oct 2, 2009 7:10 PM EDT

Lehr is probably the worst pitcher the Bucs have faced all year, so expect him to pitch a shutout here.

I dunno, Jeff Suppan (who we saw more than once!) and Kip Wells are very terrible.

In other news

DK reports that Jose Ascanio had surgery this morning to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder performed by Dr. James Andrews. Not good.

And Gorzo got lit up for 7 runs in 3 innings by Arizona today in his last 2009 start.

After watching Grabow get pounded 2 days ago by the PBC, and K. Hart go from bad to worse, this may be one of those trades that helped no one.

by WstCstBucco on Oct 2, 2009 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

I’m here. BTW, there is already a thread open about the Ascanio situation.

i have no clue who the rags are

Manchester United has been called the Rags by opponents since before WWII.

WTF? Did he steal home?

by WstCstBucco on Oct 2, 2009 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

no

that’s the funniest part, apparently scored after stealing third, plus a throwing error from Shoppach

by poorboywilly on Oct 2, 2009 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions

It looks like he stole third and came around to score on Shoppach’s throwing error.

Quick Q

I missed my chance to gush during cocktail’s post how BD and Charlie’s efforts have exponentially increased my appreciation of Bucco baseball. When and if my comprehension approaches that of all you fine folks I’ll feel more free to chime in. Thanks to all who put more effort into this than I do at my vocation. That being said, ..is there any online broadcast of Pirate games? I’m not a total moron, but I do a great impression of one.

I watch them at MLB.tv on MLB.com. There’s a monthly fee—I think it’s $15 a month. And since you’re in Morgantown, which is in market, they won’t let you watch live broadcasts there; I think you can only listen to radio.

by Charlie Wilmoth on Oct 2, 2009 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I had MLB’s thing a few years back and spent more time with Vin lulling me to sleep than actually listening to the PBC broadcast. And for most folk, radio reception’s not a big deal – for “cable-less” kids like me, it’s a bit dicier. Just wanted to know if there was any live streams I was ignorant about. Thanks Charlie, Traco, WstCst and all interested parties.

by GoldNeck on Oct 2, 2009 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Personally, I haven’t found a live stream in several years. MLB is doing a good job shutting them down to protect their copyright.

Now NHL was allowing live streams just last season.

by WstCstBucco on Oct 2, 2009 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Try MLB.com. They charge about $15 for a package that gives you all MLB games in a season.

by Traco Bucco on Oct 2, 2009 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know if Morgantown is included (I think it is), but the Pittsburgh area is blacked out of Pirate games, even ones that aren’t televised. I’d look into it before you subscribe.

by ElDuce on Oct 2, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

I’ve never let lack of comprehension keep me from blogging here. Ask anyone.

But I do need to take a mo to thank Charlie, Vlad, WTM, Thunder (our secret weapon), phillybuc, my cuz westcoastbuc and others too numerous to mention, for making this such a great site. And as always, a special shout out to cocktails, my spiritual guide.

Now, go Bucs and don’t lose 100.

He’s had a really nice September. Still it’s too bad about last night’s HR being erased.

His offense, defense and smarts (e.g., breaking up the DP in Chicago) have all been outstanding.

This trade is looking very good for the PBC, even though it cost them “cornerstones.”

Ok, I called it yesterday.

With the cancellation, all we need to is win one in this series to avoid 100.

Maybe we can get a comment from Sean Burnett on which team is an embarrasment to baseball.

by Trogluddite on Oct 2, 2009 8:51 PM EDT reply actions

Don’t forget Burnett is one of the cornerstones. :)

by WstCstBucco on Oct 2, 2009 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Don’t all great teams build around middle relievers?

by Trogluddite on Oct 2, 2009 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I think being one of the cornerstones means that Burnett has powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men – he can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel with his bare hands, and comment on the shortcomings of other clubs with better records than his.

On a completely unrelated note...

The Internet is pretty darn scary – I just googled an obscure Irish song and came up with the complete background on the song.

And that sure looked like a 2-base error.

…normally, our left fielder lets one drop in, then we have a throwing error in the infield, then someone hits a batter on an 0-2 count.

by eyeofhorus777 on Oct 2, 2009 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions
