Perotto Fired

Mark Madden today said on his radio show that the Pirates fired John Perotto from his job, he ran a blog called Piratesreport.com, a year after they enticed/promised him big things. Perotto left his previous job, beat writer for Beaver County, for what he thought would be an upgrade, only to get fired after one year.  Though the site wasn't the greatest, as it'd be the 3rd or 4th site I'd go to for Pirates news, it was still a different opinion from a guy that's been around the game for a while.  Perotto's covered the Pirates since before the streak started.  I, like most on this site, agree with most that this front office has done, but this sucks at a human level.  I haven't been this upset with the Pirates since the Aramis trade.   I realize you can't keep everyone happy, and there's probably more to the story than what Madden said on his show, due to his bias against the Bucs, but it all seems like a shady move by the Bucs.  Just wondering if anyone had heard anything else on the matter.

Wow.

They’ve already deleted a bunch of his stuff at PiratesReport.com. It does look unexpected because Perrotto thanked everyone for reading the website in its first year and how he looked forward to next year…

Too bad.

Perrotto’s a sharp guy who knows his baseball. I hope he lands on his feet – he’s better than any of the Trib’s sportswriters, for example.

For a long time, when Paul Meyer was the P-G’s beat guy, Perrotto was the only readable guy covering the team.

Yep.

And, if I remember right, he was the guy who broke the Coonelly hire and the Huntington hire as well.

Definitely didn't see that coming.

I hope things work out for him. I enjoy reading his work with Baseball Prospectus.

Bummer.

I like Perotto. I’d love to know what happened.

So would Perrotto.

According to his twitter account:

The situation became strange as the season went on. There is more to it than I know, I’m sure.
