I don't remember my exact ballot either...

…but the lowest-ranking guy I can remember voting for is Vazquez at 17, who I think I had 8th or 9th on my ballot.

Some of those votes are lunacy. Holliday 3rd, on the strength of 63 games?

People fall in love with a very good half-season, especially a mid-season pick up. I don’t know why that is, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see that moreso now, especially after CC’s monster 2nd half of 08 with the Brewers. IMO, the only way a midseason pick up should win an award is if the other candidates aren’t particularly good choices. Is Sutcliffe from 84 the only midseason pickup to win an award?

Absurd

Maybe it has to do with short attention spans…and how so-and-so is only hitting .250 all year, but .400 in his last eight games. I know key additions can spark a lethargic team and boost their performance, but they are awards for the season, not a half-season.

Vindicated

Glad to see that the SB Nation people agreed with me on Fielder. Although I felt he had the 2nd best season, the Brewers place in the standings hurts him for this voting.

Will be curious to see where the BBWA people place him. Being a big fan of Tulowitzki, love the 5th place finish despite the numbers that might only justify 8th or 9th place.

Looks like Votto is one of the most underrated players in the league. He mashed as much as anyone aside from Pujols and Fielder.

I think the biggest thing that hurt Votto this year...

…was that he only started 128 games. That’s certainly what pushed him off my ballot. Well, that and the fact that I have no compunction about voting for pitchers.
