Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Here are the hitters, I imagine the pitchers will be coming soon. At a glance I notice Iwamura is still included as a Ray. Not much to be excited about, but I guess that's to be expected.

2010 chone projections

can’t understand the meaning/importance of these projections. doesn’t seem to make sense to me that so many of names are players in the minors and sure to still be in minors next year, so how does this impact ML team? I don’t see McCutchen doing less than Pearce, for example, and so i wonder how these projection were made. And others I question, but always open to new info. thanx

At this time last year...

…it was likely that Garrett Jones and Jeff Salazar were going to spend all year in the minors. As such, it’s good to know what all the guys in the upper levels of your system would do with ML playing time, just in case you end up needing to break the glass and use them.

Steve Pearce has a decent projection because he was one of the best hitters in AAA last season – he would’ve ranked somewhere around fifth in raw OPS for the IL, IIRC, if he’d had enough at-bats to qualify. That said, McCutchen’s projection is still better than Pearce’s: Higher OPS, and a greater amount of it coming from OBP.

I love how high Myrow always gets on these projections...GFJ-Version2.0?

I don’t find it encouraging that only six players on there have a positive R/150, though, especially seeing how only four of them will likely make the team.

Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89

He's actually kind of the anti-GFJ

GFJ only once had a minor league season that even approached Myrow’s run from ‘07-’09. That’s why his success last year was so surprising.

The offensive profile is different, too. Minor league Jones had power but not much else, while Myrow is a walkin’ man with line-drive power and a better BA.
