i said this on the “tigers as trade partners” thread yesterday, and i think there’s a good likelihood that the mystery 3rd team is the pirates with doumit going to the M’s and Jackson coming to Pittsburgh, in that specific case. The Pirates keep popping up as the mystery team, huh? :P Of course I m just speculating, but it won’t surprise me.

Clearly, the management is pretty keen on seeing Doumit go, and before the season.

Or

Doumit going to the Tigers, Jackson to Seattle, and Morrow coming to the Pirates…

Personally...

…I like that one better. Jackson doesn’t seem like a good fit for our current situation.

That said, Doug Melvin has supposedly been hot for Morrow for several years now. If there’s a mystery team in a Morrow deal, my money’s on the Brewers.

Could be.

Gamel’s got a pretty good bat, and Seattle has an opening for it.

Though that leaves Detroit...

…without anybody taking Jackson, doesn’t it?

Hm.

only if we agree that melvin wants morrow and no one else

he might be happy to pick up jackson… with morrow going to detroit

Well, Morrow's involvement in the deal...

…is what made me think of Milwaukee in the first place. If they aren’t getting him, there’s no reason for them to be involved.

starting pitching

seems like a good reason

M's Fan Love Him!

I read the Ms fan comments. They love the idea.

BUT I don’t see what the Ms would give us in return. Someone mentioned a closer but I don’t see us going for that. We would want a position player for sure.

Of course they want us to take a closer.

Closers are, in general, overvalued commodities, and as fans, they’d like to believe that we’d overpay in a trade.

It’s the same impulse as the one driving the “package deal” proposals that make Dejan so nuts, just couched in more respectable terms.

NH wouldn't do it

can’t see him tradin doumit for a closer, with Hanrahan, Capps and Meek still in pittsburgh!

he definitely values the pen the way it should be…

If Doumit’s going anywhere, we get at least one pretty good player. But, I m sincerely worried that we may sell Doumit low

by BurgherKing on Nov 20, 2009 1:04 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What does "selling low" mean in that context?

Lower than a fair assessment of his current value? That’s a concern at any time, not just now. Lower than his value will be in the future? That’s only a problem if we trade him for something that doesn’t also increase in value.

Ultimately, it comes down to whether we can pick the right players coming back, regardless of what Doumit is actually “worth” at any given time.

in context

would you do doumit for morrow straight up?

I wouldn’t, but I would be extremely tempted. I think:

1. We have starting pitching, and Morrow is ok. We have waves coming, and a middle-back of the rotation starter is something we have enough of.

2. We could move Doumit for a couple of good prospects, and possibly more in June. I would wait till June. If he gets hurt, that pretty much does it for his trade value, but I would still wait till june. I think other teams value Doumit much more than we do- switch hitting catcher who threw out ~30% runners. May not be the greatest game caller but has power.

I wouldn't do a 1:1 there...

But I like Morrow as an addition in the abstract.

I do think that we can get good talent back for Doumit, if we decide to move him.
