Putz' option declined

Daniel Cabrerra becomes free agent

Chad Tracy's option declined

John Garland's option declined

Yusmeiro Petit (remember he shut out the Bucs, or came close) claimed by Mariners, Doug Slaten by the Nats

Trent Oeltjen & Alex Romero outrighted to AAA

Scott Proctor signs with Altanta

One other thing on my mind, and that's Jose Tabata.  Singles hitter, gap power doubles hitter, or home run hitter?  I've heard Keith Law say he hits well but is not interested in doing anything else.  He's still young (if that can be believed) and he looked like a stud last spring training, but quite honestly I have no idea how good he will be.

opinions?

Will Putz be in the premium price range? I think he’d be a good guy to have, but you don’t want to pour too many resources into just a reliever.

Somehow, a guy being referred to as “the Pirates’ Putz” doesn’t excite me.

Tabata is still very young so his home run totals should improve. I’ve been very impressed with his production so far though. Especially considering his age and the level of competition he’s up against. Last time I checked his winter league numbers, his BA was around .360 and his OPS was around .940

Jeremy Hermida traded to the Red Sox. Might have liked to see the Pirates pick him up. Red Sox didn’t give up much.

We apparently weren't interested.

The Marlins have been trying to send him to us for several years now: First as part of a three-way deal for Bay, then later as an even-up for relief help.

not sure why we were never interested

now, it does look like Hermida wont play to what people thought he might. But 1.5 years ago, I thought he would have been great (not saying we should have made the Bay trade with Florida, just sayin)…

JJ Hardy to the Twins for Carlos Gomez

It’s been an interesting few days already.

by ElDuce on Nov 6, 2009 12:08 PM EST reply actions

Hmm, interesting.

Hardy’s a nice upgrade for the Twins. Milwaukee must be planning on letting Cameron walk.

by Vlad on Nov 6, 2009 12:32 PM EST up reply actions

I guess it depends...

…how much you think Gomez is going to hit. If he’s even at his 2008 level of offense, he’s a viable starter thanks to that great glove, but he’s burned most of his pre-arb time and the combination of a high K rate with low power is a real negative indicator.

by Vlad on Nov 6, 2009 12:37 PM EST up reply actions

Unless

the change in leagues helps him, he won’t hit.

But then again, he could be the next Nyjer Morgan…

hey – maybe we should trade cutch for gomez

Looks like a steal for the Twins.
