Veal "An Entirely Different Pitcher" in AFL
Baseball America cites a 95 MPH fastball, a "free and easy" delivery, and control improvements as the reasons why Donald Veal has been completely different in the Arizona Fall League.
I'm skeptical--baseball writers overreach a lot in their attempts to explain short stretches of good play--but articles this nice are always great to see.

Agreed…stuff like this is always better than the obligatory and repetitive (even if its true) “Moskos has nothing” articles.

Veal has always had nasty stuff. The question has been can he throw it over the plate? Even when on his minor league rehab assigns this year he had horrible walk numbers, but also sky high Ks. The thing that impresses me about his AFL stint is 2 walks in 16.2 innings and 17 Ks.

I couldd envision Veal as a 4th starter based on what I’ve seen of him. Maybe he just needs consistent work with quality coaching.

If he throws strikes
His stuff makes his upside more like a 2 than a 4.

If Veal Truly Figures it Out
He’ll be higher than a 4, but if he doesn’t he’ll never see the ML again.
Don’t know if there is pitch tracking in the AFL, but it would be interesting to see if he is really throwing strikes or if guys are swinging at bad pitches.

Glad to hear that he's making progress.
Even the ineffective 2009 version of him was pretty fun to watch – I could see an optimized build being a big success.
