Pirates' New Bradenton Team to be Called "Marauders"
And their logo is of a Pirate. Cool.

No, just making a joke.
There were some really off-the-wall names back in the olden days, though. The Cleveland Infants. The Newark Pepper. The Philadelphia Centennials. And Pittsburgh’s other MLB franchise, the Burghers.
And that’s just MLB… there are even more in the Negro Leagues, or the old-time organized minors.
A couple minor league franchises from PA:
The Johnstown /Palmyra Mormans. The Latrobe Rooters. The New Castle Salamanders. The Reading Pretzels (also known at various points in their history as the Coal Heavers and the Actives). The Braddock Infants. The Beaver Falls Browns (!). The Sharon Ironmongers. The Oil City/Jamestown Oseejays. The Uniontown Coal Barons. And the Road Warriors, who were based in PA but had no home park and played only road games.
don't forget
our very own (used to be our very own) Hickory Crawdads. Nothing inspires fear like a freshwater crustacean. Some teams from here out west include the Idaho Falls Chukars (it’s a real word—an upland game bird), the Casper (Wyoming) Ghosts, and the Orem Owlz (since every $#@!ing team in Utah must end with a Z because of the Jazz—the Jazz, Grizz, Buzz, Starzz, Owlz, Blaze).

re: Z's...
I despise teams with names that end as a singular – Heat, Jazz, Magic, etc.

never followed basketball much
but what are Miami players called (analogous to “He is a Pirate”, or “he is a Steeler”)?
“He is a heater”? (similar to “He is a red sock”?)
end up having to use
convoluted phrases like “former Jazz-man Karl Malone” and just avoid phrasings like you mention above all together. Instead of saying “he is a [Jazz-singular]” you would say something like “he is a Jazz player” or more likely “he is playing on the Utah Jazz” or “this Jazz team”.

the Burghers
I knew about, as might be apparent from the nick I use :D
Most of the rest, I didn’t- should look them up, sounds fun!
WV Power alt logo
Cool logo but the best logo in the Pirates system goes to the WV Power, IMO. It’s an homage on the old Charleston Charlies logo (a former Triple-A affiliate of the Bucs) with a new Pirate twist.
I like the bowler cap but otherwise he kind of looks like one of Tobias dressed as a pirate from the pilot of Arrested Development.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. . .
I made most of my life decisions at a Foghat concert... I stand by them.

I hear they play a little of the old Ludwig Van...
…in the middle of the seventh inning.

Also, when one of our batters gets hit by a pitch
he charges the mound and pulls the barrel off of his bat, revealing a hidden knife inside.

Not to mention
the Gatorade stuff in the clubhouse will be replaced by

wouldn't it have been easier
to just call them the Bradenton Buccaneers? Same concept, but with alliteration. Other Pirate-related options include the Corsairs, the Pillagers, Plunderers, or Philanderers, the Privateers, or (my favorite) name them after a real pirate and call them the Calico Jacks.
Anyways, cool name and nice logo. Kind of glad they didn’t just call them the “Pirates”, I dislike the lack of creativity when teams name their minor leagues after them.

I assume they didn’t want to tread on Tampa Bay toes.
I agree that it’s lame to have 5 levels all called the Cubs or Cardinals.
Don’t the Orioles have several bird teams in their system? Plus the immortal Frederick Keys.
The Orioles do have several bird teams in their system: Shorebird (Delmarva), Ironbirds (Aberdeen), and their rookie-league affiliate the Bluefield, WV Orioles. I believe just about all of their minor league affiliates, including the non-bird teams, go with the black and orange color scheme.
yeah
I’m fine with that, it shows creativity within an overriding theme.
