Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Doug Mientkiewicz Re-signs with the Dodgers

According to CBS, http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/transactions, the legendary Doug Mientkiewicz  has signed a minor league contract with LA. It's hard to belive that this time last year Dougie's possible returm was the subject of so much speculation. It seems like progress that signing a guy like this no longer generates much interest. Eye chart got hurt in mid-April, and ended up only making 19 plate appearances for the year. Hopefully next season will be kinder to the scrappy veteran.

We could have beaten a minor league deal!…stupid “internal values”…

At least we got to see those 3 ABs he had at PNC last year. Strikeout vs Daniel McCutchen, strikeout vs. Jesse Chavez, weak popout vs. Zach Duke in the infamous 8 2/3 game.

Heh

I was at the Duke game (me and 2,000 other people, though someday 200,000 will claim to have been there), never heard it called that before though. Seems like it should be capitalized: The Infamous 8 2/3 Game., like Merkle’s Boner (Russell’s Boner? Nah, I don’t think I wanna go there) or the Pine-Tar Game.

By coincidence, I was in the muffler shop this afternoon leafing through some old ESPN The Magazines and there was a photo in one of them of the team celebratory pigpile after that game. Good times, good times.

Yeah.

I remember watching that game on TV. He was getting a lot of applause when he went to bat. That confused the Dodgers announcers “What did he do here to get that kind of applause?” kind of stuff. I thought it was sad and funny at the same time.

Trade

I say NH proposes a trade to LA: Dougie Fresh for Ramon Vasquez

Hmm...

One of the rare trades where both teams lose?

I'd make the trade in a heartbeat

if they’d take on Vazquez’s contract.
