Chris Bootcheck going to Japan
He signed a one-year deal with the Yokohama Bay Stars, for 50 million yen (about $550k at current exchange rates), plus performance bonuses. The story indicates that he may get a chance to be their closer.
Yokohama also signed ex-Buc Jose Castillo, to a one-year deal for 30 million yen. Castillo, who is expected to start at second base for Yokohama, played in Taiwan in 2009.

John Perrotto had mentioned Bootcheck going to Japan during a radio spot last week, but I didn’t know if it was official or just something he was leaning towards. Looks like it’s official now. Anyway, best of luck to him, hopefully he does well for himself over there. Already looks like more money than he would have earned stateside. Maybe his stuff will translate better over there. It’s happened plenty of times before. He seemed like a great guy when I met him briefly in Indy.
