Pirates Sign Jack Taschner

This is the definition of flyer. Taschner is 31 year old lefty with no history of success with the Giants or the Phillies.

Here is b-r page:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/taschja01.shtml

It goes to show that if you throw left-handed, there is always a chance, always a tomorrow.  Taschner can strike a few batters out, but lefties have done well against him and he walks way too many guys.  Another arm in camp for a look.

UPDATE by Charlie: Like dtoddwin says, Tascher isn't very good. Lefties have a .774 OPS against him for his career, so he really can't even be used as a LOOGY. But as a lefty with plenty of major league experience, he'll be vaguely useful to have in the minors. This is apparently a minor league deal, so there's no risk involved.

He's pretty pedestrian.

He’d look a lot better in Indy than as the second lefty in the pen.

That said, he does throw sidearm sometimes, which is at least visually interesting. If you can’t be good, memorable’s better than nothing.

Thing is, he has basically no platoon split. He sucks against everybody. He should actually be the third lefty in the Indy ’pen, after Thomas and Ledezma.

If he makes....

the club, his deal is virtually the same as Javier Lopez’s deal.

Looks like a AAAA pitcher from a brief glance at the numbers.

That’s about right.

Well, he actually looks like a AAA pitcher to me.
