Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

I just bet my friend $50

So I just made a $50 bet with my friend that the Pirates will have a better record than the Nationals next season.  I've been following the buccos pretty closely and I like what Huntington has done with this squad.  I feel pretty confident that the Pirates can at least do better than the Nationals, and maybe actually make a run at having a good year.  I like the pitching staff with Duke, Morton, Ohlendorf, Maholm and look forward to seeing Lincoln, McCutchen and maybe Alderson sometime.  I think the offense can be built around McCutchen, Jones, and Doumit and i'm looking foward to seeing more of Laroche, Milledge, and Iwamura.  I can't wait to see Pedro Alvarez and Tabata and think when those guys get up here the Pirates might actually think they're ready to win some games.  I'd like to watch a team with young talented guys having fun and looking to prove something.

I know Pittsburgh's ready to see a winning baseball team and hope this group of players is finally going to be that team.  I like what management is doing and I don't doubt that soon enough they'll be willing to spend some money on a missing piece.  I don't know much about the Nationals team next season but I'm hopin theyre still bad and will be very disappointed if this Pirates team can't do better than them.

Won't Matter

To quote a line from The Natural “He is not enough to make the difference.” Ofcourse, they were wrong! ;-)

Serioulsy, I think you will win the bet. Did you give him any games?

He does realize...

that the Nats have the #1 pick in the draft two years running right? You don’t get that for having the best record!

Looks like someone's buying low

The glare of the spotlight is harsh, and the pressure that success breeds immense. We revere our heroes, but expect much. And criticism can come as easily as praise.

bad idea

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s never bet on the Pirates
