Pirates on verge of signing Bobby Crosby?

I think this would be a smart move, good competition for Cedeno, and Crosby is versatile SS, 3B, and some 2B, i mean former 1st rd pick and rookie of the year in the AL he has shown he has power, but hopefully he can stay healthy... prob only a one year deal so he can rebound. Well hopefully he can rebound here in pittsburgh!

I'm kind of curious...
…about why this is coming from a Denver paper, rather than a local one from either here or Oakland.
I’m not particularly optimistic about him, but the SS market this offseason sucks. C’est la vie.

His stat line is odd
A BABIP under 0.275? It was only 0.307 when he won the ROY. I haven’t tracked down the stories of his injuries yet, but apparently there’s a story there. Before 2009 he was an above average SS. Now?
Viva Clemente!
BABIP can vary from hitter-to-hitter.
It tends to remain pretty constant within a given hitter’s career, but some guys are just higher than others.
Yinzers are going to hate this because of his sub-par offensive numbers. I don’t think it’s too bad, though, as maybe a 1 win upgrade at short. Nothing special, but not too bad given the poor market.
Yeah, it seems like a decent win-win move.
Either Crosby rebounds and becomes the primary SS, or he continues his previous role as a utilityman in Pittsburgh. As long as the price is right, there’s nothing wrong with this move.
Hey, an out is an out - unless you're Mario, in which case it's probably two outs. -UtesFan89
Why can't Mendy bust a long TD run? We could use it.
A very interesting move to test the theory that 2 wrongs might make a right
That is, put 2 mediocre players into a position to battle each other for 1 spot and hope that one of them has a career year.
Crosby ?
“Either Crosby rebounds and becomes the primary SS” – His last and only good year, and even then he hit under .240. Hit over .240 only once, in 2005. I don’t think a guy who is 4-5 years away from his one decent season can be expected to rebound. Can we get David Crosby instead? I generally like Neal’s moves, but this is BS. But I think these 2 comments from CBS sportsline say it best:
- You name it – speed, power, avg, OBP – and Crosby can’t do it. He’s one of the more complete bags of pooh starting in the majors, one that needs to be lit on fire and stepped on**
this guy can’t go for a piss without hurting his hand.. his injuries per inning is higher than his ba. the man is a f—-ing flake i’ll take a platoon player playing C ball in chile before i take that useless prick again.
If a guy's putting runs on the board...
…it doesn’t matter whether he’s doing it with a .240 BA or a .340 BA. Runs are runs.
That said, Crosby’s bat has been limp enough for long enough now that I don’t see much remaining offensive upside there.
