Congratulations
to the Steelers on Super Bowl victory #6!
I thought Big Ben
deserved the MVP.
Is there a more popular franchise in pro sports in the U.S. than the Steelers?
The city of Pittsburgh should be proud.
I don't think so.
Steelers fans are freaking everywhere. I’m from Iowa and they’re everywhere here. I’ve met more Steelers fans around Dubuque than Packers or Bears fans. The Steelers have built up the largest fan base in the country by winning and respecting the fans. The Pirates learn a lot from the Steelers.

Hey IAPiratesFan, what town are you from?
My Mom is from Elkader and I have been to NE Iowa about a hundred times, it’s the best part of the state. Go Steelers!
Dubuque County.
I live about 5 miles southwest of Dubuque, near the airport. North Eastern Iowa is greatest place in the World to live. Second is probably Pittsburgh. Third is probably Hawaii, at least this last month has made me think that it would be a great place to live.
Cool man
I have a bunch of friends from Dyersville. Once I was trying to find one of their houses and I ended up at the field of dreams by mistake, pretty cool actually, I was just like “wait a sec, this is the field of dreams”.
Hey Charlie
I love both the Steelers and the Pirates. I also love BTSC, but I must say: I like you and the other regulars here more. As was previously pointed out to me, baseball is an easier sport to analyze from a fan’s perspective than is football and that has a lot to do with my opinion on this matter. But still, damn, I am very impressed by the quality of stuff I’ve read on here. I have learned so much about the game from you guys. Thanks very much. Oh and by the way . . . the Steelers just won the F’in Superbowl. Hot Damn!!!
It was worth staying up for
Stayed up til 4:30am to watch it on a crappy pirate (um, no not baseball Pirate) internet stream, but it was worth it. Was hoping that they’d run away with it towards the end so that I could start “cooling down” before the end of the game but as it was my heart was still pounding for a while afterwards.
Even though they’re a great franchise and win Super Bowls and all that, I think they could still use a little piece of advice from me (that they could have heeded before this year). I’m going to send the team a template to use in the draft this year, it reads:
“With the [insert draft pick number] of the 2009 NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select [insert name here], Offensive Lineman from [insert university name here]”
(repeat for all picks)
I could also live with...
…a DE or CB in the first, if the value isn’t there at OT/C. Though Big Ben’s protests to the contrary, the line really does need work.
Who do you guys like in the first?
I think Alex Mack would be a pretty nice first-rounder, if he’s still there.
No idea
I’m so out of touch with 1-A college football that I don’t even know who any of the top 5 prospects are. I trust the Steelers scouting enough just to be happy if they’re picking OL in early rounds. I thought they drafted “best player available” last year in rounds 1 and 2 but ignored the fact that they had glaring needs in the offensive line. On the one hand it worked out because they won the Super Bowl, but I’d say they did it in spite of their draft last year, certainly not because of it.
Andre Smith
I’d love to see him in a Steelers uniform but I think they’d have to give up a lot (possibly too much) to get a high enough draft pick to get him.

There’s a ton of depth at OT this year, which is our biggest need unless we resign Starks. There are 4 OT’s at the top (Oher, A Smith, J Smith, Monroe), but one could fall into the 15-20 range, giving us a shot at trading up (we’ll have a 3rd round comp pick for Faneca). If not, Eben Britton is another guy who’d be worth a trade up to ~25, or we could stay put and just draft the best OL left at 32. Mack, Max Unger, Duke Robinson, William Beatty, and Phil Loadholt would all make a lot sense for us there.
There are some good options later in the draft, so if we got a chance at a good DL like BJ Raji or Fili Moala, I’d think about it pretty seriously.

Three weeks until pitchers and catchers report.
Why I can't embrace the Steelers
Here’s a perfect example: Mrs. Daddy was watching one of her soaps at about 2:45 today when the feed mistakenly cut back to the WTAE newsroom. For about 10 seconds we watched workers scramble around a confused-looking Michelle Wright. Then the feed cut back to the soap.
“Uh-oh,” Mrs. Daddy said. “Something happened.”
And I, in a mocking tone of voice, said, “OH MY GOD! The Steelers plane just landed!”
I thought I was joking. A little.
A few minutes later the feed DID cut to the newsroom where Michelle Wright delivered this stunning news update: The Steelers plane just landed. And she proceeded over the next 10-15 minutes to describe to us exactly what we were seeing: A number of tired-looking men and some children and women climbing down the staircase and meandering across the tarmac.
(Actually, just as the plane door opened, Wright said, “Let’s see who’s the first to get off the plane.” Mrs Daddy said, “Do we care who’s first to get off the plane?”)
Jesus Christ.
Speaking of whom, I’m convinced that if the Second Coming had been coincident with the Steelers plane landing, WTAE would have cut away from the Rapture so we could have breathlessly admired the gutty and courageous way Hines Ward was first to hobble down the steps.
And it’s going to be like this for the next two weeks, at least, as the Action Newses and Hometown Newses and 11 at 11 Newses compete to one-up each other on who can kiss-ass the Steelers and their fans more, completely trashing anything resembling dignity and decorum (some of the reporters deserved combat pay for getting embedded and half-mugged in the chaos of places like East Carson Street on Sunday night) to openly cheer and gloat. Makes me Hometown Proud.
“That’s one thing he hated, the noise! noise! noise! noise!”
I understand your point but the fans have some reason to be excited, the Steelers did just win the biggest sporting event in America and in exciting fashion.
Although I’ve learned to appreciate Steelers fans more since I’ve left Pittsburgh.

Wait Until November ...
when the Pirates touch down at Pittsburgh International with the World Series trophy.
Then what will you say when the networks cut away from the soaps?
