Report From Bradenton - Day 2

Stay connected for news and updates

Just returned from 2nd day.

Pitchers who threw today were Karstens, Grabow, Maholm, McCutchen, Jason Davis, Davidson, Bautista, Duke, and Gorzo.  Gorzo looked like a different person, slim and trim.  Everyone looked good as I saw them.  Was impressed with McCutchen's off speed stuff, though a guy standing there before me said his fastball looked to lack movement.

Hinske, and Ramon Vasquez took batting practice with Moss, Nyjer, and Garrett Jones.  All the catchers also took batting practice.  Have yet to see Robinson Diaz NOT smoke a ball.

Talked to Manny Sanguillen who said Perez was a good defensive catcher and that Doumit had improved greatly.  In my mind he favored Perez to Diaz and Jarimillo (at least defensively).  Ran into Andrew McCutchen, who was in workout stuff, and said he came out to watch.  Talked to him for a little while.  Aslo ran into John Perotto and Chuck Finder, both nice guys.

Big treat talking to Neil Huntington, who talked baseball with us for a half an hour.  He said everyone looked good physically, and I agree.  Do not expect anything else to happen with the team, "still talking, but probably not", meaning additional signings, etc.  Neil just enjoys talking baseball.  Compared Bobby Abreu #'s to Adam LaRoche (close OPS) and when adding defense in, LaRoche is the better player.  Will add more later, wife wants to move...
