Joe Crede to the Twins, where does that leaves Walker ?

There was a discussion here about sending Neil Walker to the Twin Cities for Delmon Young.  I didn't really want to see that trade in the first place and now that Crede is signed that pretty much puts an end to that debate.  I'm really hoping that Neil does well and somehow gets a chance to produce for our club.  Although I'm not sure how. Andy LaRoche is suppose to be our third baseman until Pedro Alverez is ready.  I think Walker's catching days are over and from what I understand he's not much of an outfielder either.  Where now, first base ?  Teach him to throw a knuckleball ? Ideas ?

My Hope

is that he has a really good first half of the season in AAA and either gets traded or gets promoted and Andy gets traded. Hopefully this logjam of “potential talent” benefits the pirates with some young talent needed in other areas.

Meh.

This seems like a non-issue to me. Walker was pretty awful with the bat last year, and he’s going to need to play well at AAA this year before we plug him into our plans anywhere at all. And by that time, we’ll have seen a full year of LaRoche to know whether he’s a solid 3B or not, and Freddy will be in his walk year, so we’ll have 2B as an available option for one or the other of our 3B. And there are always some extra AB available in an OF corner…

And in my view, Alvarez is a total non-issue at third. He’s a 1B, end of story. He’s borderline for the position even now, and he’s going to add bulk as he ages and fills out. He’s a 3B prospect the same way Jim Thome was.
