Brandon Moss Returns
Brandon Moss is making his first start since March 7 today. That's a very good thing. Dejan Kovacevic suggested yesterday that Nyjer Morgan may not make the starting lineup--which is great, but if Moss isn't ready, that could mean Eric Hinske and Craig Monroe could start the year in the starting corner outfield spots. That would be extremely depressive: not particularly productive, as I'm only about 75% sure Monroe could outplay Morgan, and with no upside whatsoever. Let's hope Moss is ready to go.
Sorry for the sporadic updates; I'm having a very busy week. Updates will be more regular starting around Sunday.

I'm almost to the point....
….where I would rather give Morgan a shot rather than play Monroe. I think Morgan has no future. I know Monroe has no future. How depressing is it to root for a team where I almost want Morgan to get a shot. At least I was 10 in ’71 and 18 in ’79.
I still want to see Salazar get a shot.
So assuming...
that Morgan doesn’t start the season in LF and Moss is ok to play and starts in RF, would Hinske play LF regularly or would Monroe? Logic would say the Hinske starts against RH pitching and Monroe against LH’rs.
Outfield
The pirates are not looking to win this year, so both Morgan and Monroe are plugs until Tabata and McCutchen are ready. Moss will end up being a third or fourth outfielder at best. He is injury prone and his track record shows that he will be a below average or average major league outfielder. The hope is that Andrew and Jose develop quickly enough to join Nate in the outfield before Nate’s better days are behind him. Morgan, Monroe and Moss are nothing but bench players in the major leagues. They all make decent fourth outfielders, but none should be a starter for a variety of reasons.
Moss is a decent fourth outfielder...
…with a chance of becoming more. Morgan is a fifth outfielder for a team with a right-handed CF. Monroe is AAA filler at best.
