Andy LaRoche Error Watch

Andy is on pace to have 225 errors playing a minimum of 150 games without injury.  The major league record is 91 by Charlie Hickman who played thrd base for the New York Giants in 1900.  Andy only has 88 to go.  I think we should keep vigil during the season to see if he can break this hallowed mark.

BTW - along with the ghost of Charlie Hickman, does anyone else thing the ghost of Pat Mears may be lurking?

The Ghost of Pat Meares

How dare you mention Charlie Hickman...

…and not reference his nickname? We may never again see a player called “Piano Legs”!

He was a semi-local fella, born just north of the West Virginia border, and after he was done as a player, he coached WVU’s baseball team.

Andy LaRoche

won’t get a chance to make 35-40 errors.

Ramon Vazquez will get his share of time at 3B, and Neil Walker could get a chance in a month or two if LaRoche continues to struggle.

But it’s only been 2 games, so let’s be patient.

Don't be overdramatic

Look, LaRoche is pressin’ right now. He wants to perfect because of two reasons: 1) He was given the starting job (management’s fault) w/o any competition really, and he wants to finally show that he deserves it and that he can be the player that was always very highly thought of in LA’s farm system.
2) Pedro Alvarez. How would you like to be the everyday 3B knowing that you are just keeping the seat warm for a guy that could be up there as early as Opening Day 2010? He wants to make it very, very hard for management to bench him or demote him.
He’s trying very hard to live up to the hype and prove that he belongs. He’s feeling the pressure, as he should. But I think it’s premature to write him off already. I think he will calm down and relax as soon as he gets that first hit. Players always want to get that first hit of the year out of the way. He will be fine. He just needs to get that first hit.

He is trying to out do his brother

While Adam only hits like crap in the beginning of the season, Andy would wants to outdo him by playing shitty defense as well. Here’s hoping that it runs in the family and he turns into Scott Rolen after the all-star break.

I want to see LaRoche succeed

with the evidence we have seen thus far, anyone with that last name is inconsistent.
