Alvarez homers in debut; Indy down tons

Indianapolis is getting killed, but CF McCutchen is 2-3 with a triple and a walk so far.   Davis, Hamman, and Powell have all been shelled.

Meanwhile Lynchburg won 6-5; 3B Alvarez grounded out in his first AB, but then hit a single to left, a two-run homer to center, and a two-run double to center.  Not a bad professional debut for the bonus baby.  SS Jordy Mercer was also 2-3 with a walk.

It’s good to know there’ll be somewhere to turn when the Bucs need 4-5 relievers to replace the crap they’ve got now.

Meek

Saw in the box score that he was pitching for Indy (did well). I thought he was on the DL or did I miss something?

I made most of my life decisions at a Foghat concert... I stand by them.

he's on the major league DL

but he’s allowed to pitch in the minors. think of it like rehab starts.

Not on the DL

He had an option left, and it was exercised. I think the DL was discussed in the press, but the final verdict was that he hadn’t pitched much toward the end of ST and ran out of time to make the club, so they went with Chavez and optioned Meek.

The next Pujols

I’m tellin’ you right now, Pedro Alvarez will be the next coming of Albert Pujols. This guy is ridiculous. I mean, he (along with Tabata) was hitting .400 against Triple-A pitching in spring training. He won’t be in A-ball long at all. This guy is special, and if Neal Huntington and this front office pull an Aramis Ramirez with this guy, I will convert. They won’t. I know they aren’t THAT stupid, but I’m just saying. I can’t wait for him to be our opening day 3B next year, and I look forward to watching him play in Pittsburgh for a long time. The front office finally got one right! Man, I’m excited.

Maybe it's just me being a homer,

but I simply cannot wait to see Tabata, Alvarez, and Cutch in the bigs at the same time.

Amen to that. Any Pirates fan should get a little chubby at that thought.

Rockies pitcher Juan Morillo was designated for assignment today. A young pitcher that throws hard with no control. Neal Huntington should be all over this!

He's actually a pretty good prospect.

A bad fit for a roster already carrying Hansen and Veal, of course.

Alvarez...

he was looking good at the plate the same at bat as the hr he hit a line shot just foul that cleared the wall as well. Also Miles Durham looked good i mean 6’4" 205(looked bigger) stealing bases and legging out a triple.
