Re-Drafting Scheppers?
I was reading Baseball America today when I came across an article stating that Scheppers has recently been clocked at 93-96 and showed a great breaking ball while playing in some intrasquad games with a California Juco. A unnamed scout even said that he expected Scheppers to go in the Top-10 picks for sure.
My question is, would anyone object to the Pirates drafting Scheppers again this year? If the reports are true, then he is definitley a true #1 type of pitcher that the Pirates need at the number 4 spot. If I understand the draft process right (I probably don't) then I believe the Buccos would have to have Scheppers blessing to re-draft him?
Anyways, with the lack of a true number 2 prospect stepping up after Strasburg in this years draft I really do think the Pirates should at least entertain re-drafting Scheppers. What do you guys think?

Gibson or White
will be the pick at 4 I believe unless Crow is lights out in Indy League. Scheppers will be there at 49 unless he is outstanding in May. He projects well but has much less experience than the other 3. If the front office thinks 2011 will be the year to really compete they will choose the pitcher with the best chance of contributing that year. I think Strasburg,Ackley and Matzek will be the first 3 picks.
Gone early
I think Scheppers will be going in the top 15. I would not mind seeing us take Scheppers with pick 4. I was hoping Neil would take a million dollar chance on him last year despite the injury. From what I’ve read his speed is back in the mid 90’s and his breaking ball is sharp. He would be a good addition for our rotation in a few years.
Does anybody know how Justin Wilson, Scheppers’ teammate at Fresno State, is doing with the Pirates?
If Scheppers is the best player on the board...
…then I’d have no problem with them taking him.
He looks like he’s recovered pretty well from his surgery.
Scheppers Debut Last Night
According to Baseball America (subscription) http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=796 Scheppers made his indy league debut last night. Sounds like he looked good as the article said he sat 94-95 with his fastball and even touched 97. He also apparently threw some good looking breaking balls.
He threw 4 innings with 6 k’s and 4 walks (rust?, hopefully) and only threw 54 pitches. I really am starting to like Scheppers alot more in the 4 spot especially if Ackley is gone and with Grant Green looking more and more like hes not going to be a difference maker at short.
