Pirates Lineup
1. Morgan, LF
2. Sanchez, 2B
3. McLouth, CF
4. Adam LaRoche, 1B
5. Moss, RF
6. Andy LaRoche, 3B
7. Jaramillo, C
8. Bixler, SS
9. Karstens, P
Reds Lineup
1. Taveras, CF
2. Dickerson, LF
3. Votto, 1B
4. Phillips, 2B
5. Bruce, RF
6. Rosales, 3B
7. Hernandez, C
8. Gonzalez, SS
9. Cueto, P
Let's do this
I dont feel too confident in the pitching matchup, but hopefully Karstens will prove me wrong
Frankarstein
needs to rebound well here. It’s not like we’re fielding a “Sunday lineup,” so he should benefit from good defense.

When Doumit gets back, I suspect we'll see...
a lineups that looks like this against righties:
1. Morgan, LF
2. Sanchez, 2B
3. McLouth, CF
4. Adam LaRoche, 1B
5. Doumit, C
6. Andy LaRoche, 3B
7. Moss, RF
8. Bixler, SS
9. Pitcher
That’s a nice lefty-powered lineup. Doumit may have lost his clean-up gig, which I think works out for the best.
NYJER!
I would like to motion for 2 things.
1. Nyjer should change his name to NYJER! so that the excitement translates into print.
2. NYJER! be moved from “on the fringes” to “firmly entrenched” on the left sidebar.
and yes I was one of the people yelling that he shouldn’t be in the opening day lineup at the end of ST
McLouth is The Trouth
Moss
I have seen enough of Moss. McCutchen should be called up to play RF and how much better would the lineup look:
1. Morgan LF
2. McCutchen RF
3. Sanchez 2B
4. McLouth CF
5. LaRoche 1B
6. LaRoche 3B
7. Vazquez SS
8. Jaramillo C
McCutchen is slumping at AAA.
Let him find his feet in Indy before putting the pressure on him at the highest level.
SloshyJ – So you have Jack traded by the time Doumit returns?
by RDV across the sea on May 3, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Possibly
But trading Jack Wilson is probably a non-starter in my book. No one is going to take his salary off our hands unless we buyout a significant portion of it. Given that, I don’t see giving him playing time over a potential future starter in Bixler. I’d like to see them share time at SS the rest of the season.
Sweet
I was worried it would be rained out like the Phils game…

They're blasting the ball
I'm droppin' flava, my behavior is hereditary--but my technique is very necessary.
From my limited viewing, Karstens throws a very flat fastball and he has a tendency to throw it over the center of the plate. Not a good combination.

period.

Need a 5th Starter
If we can find a 5th starter we would be fine. The other 4 guys are pitching great, Pedro Martinez anyone?
How’s Gorzelanny doing in AAA? I haven’t kept track of the minors much thus far…
by thegreatchris on May 3, 2009 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Should've gotten Hughes...
We should’ve made the Yankees include Phil Hughes in that deal last summer, not Karstens.
No offense, but I don’t think Hughes was even on the table. We had a shot at Ian Kennedy, but Hughes was described as untouchable for Nady.
by thegreatchris on May 3, 2009 2:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, he should’ve been on the table. Don’t forget that the time, Marte was one of the most dominant left handed relief pitchers in baseball. Obviously, that’s not the case anymore, but at the time, we were giving up a lot. Either way, we should’ve got Hughes or Kennedy, not Karstens.
Karstens was the throw-in. It was centered around Tabata and McCutchen mostly. We might’ve been able to get Tabata and Kennedy, but even Kennedy hasn’t looked all that great this year.

Forgot Ohlendorf too, but we really didn’t have a whole lot of leverage with the Yanks…
by thegreatchris on May 3, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions
No idea, really need to catch up on the minors.
by thegreatchris on May 3, 2009 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions
The Yankees have put Hughes and Kennedy off limits in all deals. Saying the Pirates should have gotten either is just a way of saying they shouldn’t have made the trade at all.

Jamarillo
I like him. He generally doesn’t chase bad pitches. Has a gun of an arm.
Surprising with the stick thus far.
…and with that… Jaramillo proves you right!

Taveras
Was safe.
For the record. And it was on a high outside pitch that Jaramillo made the throw.
Karstens has pitched an entire second game
just throwing to first on this batter

Byrd said only wiht a contender
Karstens is crappy, but at the moment he’s the best optiion we have as a 5th starter. I’d love to see someone else in there, just don’t know who would be better…
McLouth is The Trouth

don’t worry. Karstens will just walk him, and then the next guy up will probably hit a grand slam or a bases-clearing double.

I love home announcer’s euphimisms (dont know the spelling) saying things like “Pirates bats avoiding the ball today” and “just a little over aggressive baserunning by Morgan” they all do it, just kills me

I’ve gotta go do some stuff… I’ll drop back in later when it’s 12-0….

He’s never been a good hitter, but just now he looked like 94 MPH fastballs were just impossible to him. I wonder if the bat has slowed down.
