Miguel Angel Sano

Here are some more links to Miguel Angel Sano, the 15 YO Dominican Shortstop that Dejan mentioned today.  They reference his talk about the Pirates being in the mix as well as other articles.  Current estimates put his bonuses at 2-3 million, and he sounds like the real deal.  Getting our shortstop of the future (major speculation) could definitely free up the draft to focus on pitching.  It's exciting to see the Buc's be in on something like this regardless.

As always it's worth considering that this is like giving a high school freshman 3 million dollars

Be interesting to see what kind of offer they put together.

In the past, Rene Gayo has expressed a preference toward giving mid-level bonuses to a large number of guys, as opposed to a mega-bonus for one top talent.

That said, I doubt that getting Sano would affect our draft strategy at all, except insofar as it might impact the overall amount of money available for bonuses. As noted, he’s a long way from the majors.

he’s 6’3’’ at age 15? don’t know that i’d count on him staying a shortstop.

for comparison, pedro alvarez is 6'2'' 225

vs. sano at 6’3’’ 189. i definitely acknowledge that he’s a much different body type. there’s also the chance that the numbers listed on the video aren’t entirely accurate. what i’m thinking is that at 15 (assuming he really is 15 of course) he’s not finished growing yet, in height or weight.

it’s hard to project so i, unlike many other posters on this site of late, am willing to admit that i may not be the best judge of these things so i’m willing to leave it to the professional evaluators as to where he projects.

Sounds like they could sign this kid for about what Littlefield paid for Yoslan Herrera and Serguey Linares.
