Where do you find these stats?

by Suffering Buc on May 9, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions

on Yahoo sports

if you look at the player’s main profile page, it will show a breakdown of his career stats vs. the team they are playing today and the starting pitcher they are facing. It also shows their stats “on grass/turf this year” and “away/home this year” which I find less than useful generally.

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Two problems

I’ve got two problems with today’s lineup. Why in the world is Moss still batting fifth and why is Vazquez ahead of Jaramillo? Jaramillo has been hitting very well so far this season. Vazquez should be in the 8 hole. Luigi should be fifth and honestly, Jararmillo should be sixth. Move Moss down!

FREDDY

come on…let US be the ones striking first

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 1:14 PM EDT reply actions

wow

freddy getting an SB…was lucky there

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 1:18 PM EDT reply actions

dude

WHERE in the world did the second pitch to Castillo miss?

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 1:23 PM EDT reply actions

1-0 already?! I want to cry.

by thelumberco. on May 9, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

we lose

one run is too much to come back from

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 1:24 PM EDT reply actions

Blackout.

Well, I’m not sure if being blacked out is a bad thing this weekend….

by IAPiratesFan on May 9, 2009 1:33 PM EDT reply actions

Good AB by Maholm at least.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 1:37 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah

He didn’t go down easily, which is nice to see.

by Suffering Buc on May 9, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s right, keep Maine’s pitch count up… good AB Paul.

by pittbluedevil on May 9, 2009 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions

note to Pirates LH batters:

Ignore the inner half of the plate. Wait for a good looking pitch on the outside and nail it.

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 1:38 PM EDT reply actions

A Sanchez walk? We have to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity…

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 1:50 PM EDT reply actions

Freddy Sanchez with two SBs:

Some good advance scouting about Ramon Castro’s throwing?

by patthatt on May 9, 2009 1:57 PM EDT reply actions

i think

it’s just trying to get a Hit-and-run going because we haven’t scored ANY runs in last 6 games

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Gah. 2-0 Mets… More bloops.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:20 PM EDT reply actions

man

this is ridiculous….they haven’t had a real hit all day

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:23 PM EDT reply actions

Looks like the 2008 Pirates Are Back

Getting into the habit of getting behind in the 1st inning.

by thegunner on May 9, 2009 2:25 PM EDT reply actions

Jesus. The runners are off with the pitch, and Tatis hits a soft pop fly, so it looks like it’s an easy double play — but the ball happens to fall into short center field. What incredibly awful luck.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:28 PM EDT reply actions

BALBLALBALBLALBL

shut up NY announcers. Get off your horse

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:29 PM EDT reply actions

Are you watching on MLB.TV? You can switch to Greg Brown and Bob Walk, though that’s hardly much better.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah

I do prefer the Pirates announcers, however I would rather have the HD widescreen stream.

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions

The FSN-P feed is widescreen too and looks like it’s in HD.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions

huh

they must have swapped the video, because earlier it was not.

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Hm. They swapped it back to SD now.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:43 PM EDT up reply actions

They’re switching between HD and SD every half inning. How odd.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions

is it too high

to come down? alright…say “hi” to the St. Louis announcers

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe Brandon Moss's knee is giving him more trouble

than we know about at this point.

There was talk that he was going to have trouble being ready for the start of the season at one point.

If he had a remaining option, the team would probably consider sending him to Indy to get his bat going.

Regardless, it’s getting closer to the point where the team can’t continue to run him out there on a daily basis.

by patthatt on May 9, 2009 2:33 PM EDT reply actions

Another ground ball, another base hit, although at least this was hit with a little bit of authority up the middle. 6-0 Mets. What a crappy inning.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:35 PM EDT reply actions

42 pitches and Maholm’s finally out of it. Man.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

jeebes

if Reyes thought that pitch was a ball, he is beyond coddled

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:37 PM EDT reply actions

8 hits for the Mets, 8 singles. Ugh.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:38 PM EDT reply actions

well

there’s the crappy video again

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:40 PM EDT reply actions

So much for...

not letting pitchers throw more than 35 pitches in an inning before being removed. 42 pitches that inning…and he’s coming back for more.

by Thunder on May 9, 2009 2:40 PM EDT reply actions

Haha, Paul Maholm ends the dinger drought!

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:40 PM EDT reply actions

And that’s his first in the bigs too…

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:40 PM EDT up reply actions

and

a first for a Pirates pitcher in how many years? I certainly don’t remember any

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Matt Morris

in his first game as a Pirate, 8/4/07.

by Thunder on May 9, 2009 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Diaz took care of the drought in STL.

by Thunder on May 9, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, right. I just didn’t watch that game so I don’t remember it…

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Figures

That’s almost like rubbing it in. Now that the game is lost somebody can hit something.

by WTM on May 9, 2009 2:41 PM EDT reply actions

Maholm now has more HRs than Morgan, Moss, Hinske, Jaramillo, Vazquez, Young, and Bixler (over half the position players on the roster) combined.

by WTM on May 9, 2009 2:42 PM EDT reply actions

And tied with...

Andy LaRoche and Diaz…so…the only ones on the active roster with more HR are Nate, Freddy, Adam and Monroe.

by Thunder on May 9, 2009 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions

lord

does this umpire kind of drift in and out of conciousness? Maine has a HUGE strike zone now for some reason.

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

If that doesnt’ tell you how our offense is going these days, nothing will.

by thelumberco. on May 9, 2009 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, now they blast one. Beltran makes it 7-1.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:46 PM EDT reply actions

what makes it

even more frustrating is that Maholm was the ONLY pitcher on either fantasy team pitching worth a salt. My fantasy ERA is already destroyed, no amount of good pitching will allow me to compete in ERA.

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:50 PM EDT reply actions

Paul Maholm - Innings Eater

How long is Russell/Kerrigan going to let Maholm pitch in this 7-1 debacle?

Why not let Veal, Meek or Vasquez get some work?

by thegunner on May 9, 2009 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

Maholm only has 95 or so pitches…

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Problem being...

in the minors…pitchers weren’t “allowed” to throw more than 35 pitches in an inning. Guess that goes by the wayside in the majors as well.

Obviously…the minors is not the spot to prepare for the majors…since the players aren’t “allowed” to do things there that they are “expected” to do in the majors.

by Thunder on May 9, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Maholm’s been in the majors for what, 3 and a half years now?

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

JR seems to ignore...

who is on the mound. Doesn’t make any difference whether it’s a rookie or a veteran out there. The only consistency has been the habit of leaving guys out there too long.

by Thunder on May 9, 2009 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions

who's

Vazquez? You want Ramón pitching?

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I think he means Virgil Vasquez, who has been mediocre in AAA and is not on the 25-man roster.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

No, I Meant Chavez..

but I just get confused btween Chavez, Vasquez, Sanchez, Diaz ,etc.

I’ll figure it out someday. I’m more used to Smith, Jones, Johnson …

by thegunner on May 9, 2009 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions

that's

a sight for sore eyes, Adam rolling over on a 2-0 pitch. To make your eyes more sore that is.

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 2:56 PM EDT reply actions

Andy ends up hitting something of a line drive, but of course it’s hit right at Tatis (who still almost falls down trying to field it).

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 2:57 PM EDT reply actions

for Tatís

I think that makes every play he’s been involved in looks like he’s failing miserably but somehow makes the catch

by poorboywilly on May 9, 2009 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Chavez makes it look easy…

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

Here is a link to Ken Takahashi's career stats in Japan:

http://www.japanesebaseball.com/players/player.jsp?PlayerID=281

Another guy from Japan that the Pirates could have made an effort to get to improve pitching depth within the organization.

by patthatt on May 9, 2009 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

Um, he’s 40 years old. Why bother?

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions

They need to turn the field mikes down a little bit… They caught Delgado swearing after he missed a hanging curve earlier, and now Sheffield drops an f-bomb after he grounds out to the pitcher…

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 3:24 PM EDT reply actions

shayborg

Because there are many ways to bolster bullpen depth, and the Pirates need to look outside minor trades and the Rule V draft to do so. There are some quality veteran pitchers coming out of Japan each year at an affordable price that could help the Pirates over the course of a 162-game season.

by patthatt on May 9, 2009 3:28 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe I’m just gun-shy after Kuwata, but I guess I just don’t see the point of signing 40-year-old depth. There are plenty of minor league free agents that would be at least as useful as AAA depth and have a chance to help us for a couple more years.

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions

This is really getting depressing.

The team needs to start a fight with the opposition before they start taking out their frustrations on each other.

by patthatt on May 9, 2009 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

Why Grabow and not Veal?

by shayborg on May 9, 2009 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

Lord, could LaRoche do something besides striking out or grounding out to 2B? It’s bad enough he has reverted back to his old ways, but make your outs a different way.

by thelumberco. on May 9, 2009 3:34 PM EDT reply actions

Gotta say, falling madly in love with Andy LaRoche. Hope some of these doubles turn to HRs in the coming months.

by Slizeezyc on May 9, 2009 3:49 PM EDT reply actions

It's now clear that...

the team that finished 17-37 during August and Septemer is more closely related to the Pirates present talent level…than the 11-7 start we had to the season.

by Thunder on May 9, 2009 3:59 PM EDT reply actions

Yes indeed. That 11-7 start feels more like a good dream at this point. We may lose 100 games.

by thelumberco. on May 9, 2009 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh my…surely we aren’t THAT bad.

by thelumberco. on May 9, 2009 10:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn't go that far...

but I don’t think we win more than 1 game before Friday.

by Thunder on May 9, 2009 10:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Saw this one in person

If it looked bad on TV, it didn’t do it enough justice.

First off, I’ve been seeing it on TV the past few games, but being there in person it is even more obvious how much we miss Jack Wilson. Balls Jack usually make look routine have been getting through.

Adam LaRoche seems to be swinging late.

Moss seems completely lost.

Freddy Sanchez is making a real case to be resigned.

I also agree with those that think the line up could use some changes. We’re probably stuck with Mario in the 4 hole until Doumit comes back, but I would go with NyjMo, Nate, Freddy, Mario, Luigi, JJ, Moss, Vazquez.

Although, if we wanna give Moss a rest, how about: NyjMo, D.Young, Freddy, Nate, Luigi, JJ, Mario, Vazquez.

Maybe we can teach Maholm and Duke to play RF and let them take some hacks. lol
