Yep. Didn’t become a Pirates fan until 20-something.

Maybe Cutch...
lost it in the roof? DK mentioned earlier that everyone was taking extra popups to get used to the roof…since it has a white background.
that was part of it for sure
but he did put his head down as he was running and lost track

Yay!
I’m glad our DH is able to ground out to short. Thank god he has DH experience.

Last time Monroe got a hit,
MTV was still playing music.

Man, I’ve stuck up for Monroe all year long even when everbody else on here thought he should never be in the lineup, but after what he pulled tonight (striking out and basically walking to 1B), he needs to benched for the rest of year or cut! That was just terrible. You’re making that kind of money and you can’t run out a ball that the catcher missed for strike three? Unbelievable.
Poor Dontrelle Willis
"Dontrelle will not pitch Saturday, and that’s the end of the conversation," Leyland said before the Tigers played Tuesday night at St. Louis. "There’s no further information that goes along with that. No more questions about that."

I wish JR would come out and say that about Snell. “Ian will not pitch Wednesday, and that’s the end of the conversation.” But of course, JR would never do such a thing. So Ian Snell vs. Francisco Liriano tomorrow, huh? I know Liriano hasn’t been good this year, but with Minnesota’s offense, is there really any point in watching the game tomorrow?
This has been a bad one and a half innings
bases loaded, 1 out and no one scores, lose ball in roof and allow a run, then 123 when you need to get something going and get back in the game
Charlie...
suggestion for the future…possibly try giving about a 10 comment warning before switching threads…so people won’t lose as many comments when you lock them. I’ve had it happen a couple of times that I’ve tried transmitting and thread was locked. Thanks.
Ok. I’ll try, when it’s possible. Never thought of that.

Wild Pitch...
my cat just came up to me and asked me to print out a box score of this game so she can poop on it…

Sad thing is
you are probably right. That Barney Rubble clone could be that dense.

I'm guessing that at some point this inning...
JR goes to the mound and Paul asks him…“What took you so long??”
"Paul Maholm not a very good outing tonight"
Wow, Wehner, I hadn’t noticed!

that higher numbers are always better

Of course now Punto (the only starter without a hit) will smack one here.

It could be worse
the team record is 10 hits allowed in 1 inning.

Anyone with a brain
could see Maholm didn’t have it tonight in the 2nd inning. Bring Karstens in there and it might still be a game.
Problem...
we haven’t established whether the manager has a brain.
Set that one up on a tee for ya Thunder :)

Well, as much faith as I have
in our high-powered offense, I’ve got other, more important things I could be doing right now like counting my toenail clippings, so I’m gonna go ahead and bail. Catch y’all later…

I got it
JR was just waiting for the score to be bad enough that no one would object when he inserted Karstens.
JR is a Super Genius.

I'm officially on the
“we need a new manager” bandwagon.
Why was JR hired in the first place?

Because...
he might be the only manager on the planet that doesn’t yell at his players…even when they play terrible??
Honestly
I think the new regime will rid us all of JR no sooner than 2011. :(

Mauer would lead our team...
in HR, RBI, BA, OBP, SLG, OPS and probably a few more…and he didn’t play his first game until May 1st.
And on the pitching side
IP, K, ERA, WHIP and all that jazz.

However...
following the Pirates is like a NASCAR race at Talledega. You know there’s gonna be a major wreck…you just don’t know when. And this team is definitely a train wreck.

We might as well trade Capps
it’s not like he’s gonna see much action for the team.
(Yes, I’m incredibly down after the game… or what’s been played of it so far… and I’ll be back up the next time the Pirates roll to a win)

Altoona staff...
gave up 12 hits and 7 walks…and somehow won 6-4.
Nice
Maholm gave up 14 hits & 1 walk… and got hammered.

Sad, sad stat...
A number of current major leaguers have college experience, but only 26 have earned degrees.
That number includes managers, and is led by the Athletics, who have three college graduates.

Actually...just looking...
most of the coaching staff has 2 or 3 years at least …of college…and Varsho actually has a bachelors degree in PE from Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Only other player that I know has 2 or 3 years of college is Maholm at Mississippi State.
Holy crap
Evan Meek? Haven’t seen him pitch in 8 days.

Pedro has...
had his hit for the night…went 0-3 first game as Lynchburg lost first one 1-0. Hit 2 run HR in 1st inning of the 2nd game…Hillcats up 4-1 in the 3rd.
So
do the Buccos have a 6-run in 1-inning comeback in them?
JJ, Wilson, ’Cutch! due up

An out on batter interference??
about the only things we haven’t seen tonight…catcher interference…HBP…balk and triple play.
Maholm
does pitch better with Diaz on the mound. Or at least he allows fewer runs. Something to keep an eye on?

Questions about the game...
Obviously, it was not a good night for Paul and the Pirates tonight so a lot of this doesn’t really matter, but just some things I wondered about…
1) Why did Beasley hold Cutch up on Freddy’s single to right field early in the game? Cutch is arguably the fastest player in baseball. Sanchez hits a soft single to right field and the right fielder had to run 10-12 steps to get the ball so it’s not like Freddy hit a laser that got out to the right fielder in a hurry, and Beasley is holding up Cutch! May I remind you that Mr. Rally Killer, Adam LaRoche, is on deck. Well, sure enough, Mr. Double-Play-with-the-bases-loaded excels at his craft once again and we get nothing out of the inning. With Adam LaRoche coming up, I am sending Cutch. In order for the right fielder to get Cutch out on that play, he’s going to have to make a strong throw right on the money because of Cutch’s speed. I just don’t understand it. So in Atlanta, you’re sending Craig Monroe, maybe the slowest runner on the team, home from first base on a routine double, but you’re holding up the fastest player on our team (and maybe in baseball) on a soft line drive to right field?? Baffling to say the least. Maybe Cutch had to freeze for JUST a second to make sure the ball got down, but judging from the replay, he never really stopped.
2) Craig Monroe’s uninspired hustle! Are you kidding me? Monroe strikes out, but the pitch gets by Mauer to the backstop and Monroe does a little more than a walk to first base. Mauer made a bad throw and Monroe was safe at first base. I don’t care if you’re winning 20-0 or losing 20-0, you’re playing major league baseball for a living and you should play the game as hard as you can at all times. Like many people have already mentioned, this guy is lucky to have a job. That’s just terrible, and it reflects poorly on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yes, we’re a losing ballclub right now, but that kind of effort is pathetic, and it makes you look like you couldn’t care less that your team sucks. That’s unexcusable and he should be benched or cut. It’s not exactly setting the world on fire, hitting .220. Get a grip, Craig.
