Delwyn or Hinske (or Pearce) in LF?
Would Delwyn Young, Eric Hinske, or a mix of both make more sense in left field than Nyjer Morgan for improved hitting and power, or would it take too much away from the Pirates in speed and defense?
I'd suggest Steven Pearce as well, but he probably couldn't handle the outfield at all if he has been at first base or DH the entire season.
Moss has been a similar no-hit, great field player thus far, but at least he has power potential and is young with room to grow. Morgan has none of that, and for all his speed he can be a sloppy fielder and baserunner.

I think a better answer
would be to put Pearce in right (or Young, if they really want) and put Moss in LF.
Of course, that’s just me…

delwyn young
is a really bad RF.
how bad would he be in left at PNC?
He’s in there for his bat, not his defense. His defense is what it is in right field right now, but he can work on it during the season and during the offseason. Right now, we need his bat!
Sure
but if he drives in 3 runs with his bat, and gives up 3 runs with his defense, does it really help?

He’s not THAT bad. Is he a Gold Glover? Absolutely not. But I don’t think he’s nearly as bad as everyone thinks he is. He booted that ball last night in Colorado, OK, yeah. But I would argue that Morgan, who some think is the best defensive left fielder in baseball, has been A LOT worse lately with his defense.
Personally
I’m in favor of benching them both. But that might just be me.

Yes
Him getting bat on ball has no impact on this team… we don’t score runs anyways.
He has 11 RBI and 12 runs scored.
Given our offense, and the fact that not even Young is doing much, makes it even more obvious that we need the defense out there to prevent the runs.
If the defense suffers and gives up a run, we’re in trouble. Because the offense, a .350 hitter in 90 at-bats or not, is not going to get the run back. (At least, that seems to be the case 4 to 6 times/week)

Since the Q was Delwyn or Hinske ....
Hinske (former 2002 AL Rookie Of Year) he has decent pop and looking at his stats he has better numbers as a starter then coming off the bench…a Career avg .255 hitter ..only 2 20 or more HR seasons…and an avg. of 70 RBI a season…kinda weird that he was 10 of 13 in SB last year and none attempted this yr…3 seasons as a OF 2 errors
Young (MLB Debut 2006) (5 AB) with limited playing time this year (89 AB) hes hitting .360 …has more upside then Hinske when it comes to potential …Delwyn doesn’t have enough games for me to decide if hes better Defensively then Hinske
So if were going for the youth movement then give Young more time in OF and the AB!
But if were trying to stay in the division race or wildcard berth then go with the seasoned Hinske!
Hinske is kinda you know what out of luck right now, platooning with Pearce in the mix! I like him too! Hes not a hot corner guy anymore though…..he can back up first but with Pearce seeing all 1B and DH role this year, probably not working there either
Either he gone……..or more moves pending…….maybe Nyjmo gone!
DH is a dead position.
only interleague games left are home games…no DH. If Pearce was going to DH…he should have been up last weekend.
