I would've inched you out by a second,
but I hit “preview” instead of “post.” Great minds think alike, obviously. ;-)

as he should be
against a LHP. Until he proves otherwise, Moss is a platoon player.

Steve Pearce. Just bases loaded — no doing an Adam LaRoche impression please.

new to the board
I’ve been reading posts here the past couple weeks… first time I’m able to join for a game
Tough loss last night… let’s get em today Bucs!
anyone with FSN feed
how terrible are these pirate pride commercials?
it’s enough to make me want to throw my remote through the screen
not as bad as that fool rambling about all u can eat seats and a free hat
they should be ashamed putting that garbage on tv
They're mocking the Sham-Wow commercials
I think they’re terrible for that reason. I think it’s genius, honestly.
Well a foul's a foul
no matter the count

VSL Pirates
How many of these guys were brought in by the new management team?
They keep winning
McCutchen was a Littlefield draftee actually
by DialedtoGiles on Jun 21, 2009 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I know this
I’m talking about the VSL Pirates
The Venezuelan team
This Bishop kid is tearing the cover off the ball
7 hr’s, .375 ba, 28 rbi’s
I know the board is not big on NyjMo
but would that be a better lineup with him at 1? I’m surprised JR hasn’t tried it yet
rather
have him as the other leadoff at the 9 hole to set the table for the top of the order (depending on where you prefer the pitcher hit)
How many managers
Besides LaRussa move the pitcher out of the 9 hole?
About the same. He’s hitting .352/.432/.408 as a starter and .350/.409/.500 as a sub.
An awful defensive play
negates those numbers a little.
by RDV across the sea on Jun 21, 2009 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions
He bobbled it three times
and ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS
by DialedtoGiles on Jun 21, 2009 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions
So Young bobbles the ball
which prevents any out from being recorded. But I bet the idiots at pirates.com love him because his average is kinda high.
Cutch
I assumed Andrew McCutchen would use this year to get his feet wet, learn NL pitchers and ballparks, then truly break out in 2010.
Statistically, I figured a .275/.350/.400 line was reasonable the rest of the way, albeit a best-case kind of deal.
Maybe he read OnlyBucs and got ticked, maybe he was simply bored in Class AAA, because he’s exceeded my expectations: He’s batting .347/.380/.560 and looks like a candidate for NL ROY.
I know all about small sample sizes, but this guy looks like way more than a speedy leadoff type.
He’s got a certain swagger to him, he appears comfortable in almost every at-bat. I know Jorge Bishop is the big story to some, but what McCutchen’s doing is equally as impressive, at least in my eyes.
woobie
I just read that on onlybucs
stop making me think i’m taking crazy pills
The Dodgers knew from long experience
that Delwyn Young was not an adequate OF, and they moved him away from 2B in the minors so he didn’t get killed on a pivot.
He needs to be our primary PH and nothing more.
I agree.
He’s too much of a liability defensively, and his offense isn’t good enough to move him to first base.
If Carlos Lee and Adam Dunn can play LF, Delwyn Young should be able to as well. He needs to get his head in the game on defense.
Doesn't mean they play it well
Plus does Delwyn hit 40 HRs?
Oh, and how is the K-zone today?
I did turn on the game kinda late…watching Dexter on the computer and forgot about it :). I see Maholm has a crap ton of walks though…inconsistant strike zone, or is Paul just not throwing the ball with any control today?
It's not inconsistant
just really small
by DialedtoGiles on Jun 21, 2009 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Robinzon Diaz
came to us with a reputation as being stronger with the bat than behind the plate.
The more I watch him, the more holes I see in his D and game calling.
I’m not saying the Bautista trade netted us nothing, not at all. I think Diaz will at least be a serviceable catcher for the next couple of seasons, but not much more.
Oh, he can definitely hit, but his defense is terrible. How many balls in the dirt has he tried to just scoop or pick between Friday and today? Drop to your knees, block the ball, and look like a major league catcher! These are major league baseball players that don’t know fundamentals! It’s embarassing really.
pittsburgh - cleveland YOU GOTTA BE THERE
i gotta buy a new tv….
mine has a remote inside
Well, our once-great starting pitching is going in the tank, so what hope do we have now? As I said, let the march to 100 losses begin. This sucks!
Im pretty sure
the nats have him all tied up
by DialedtoGiles on Jun 21, 2009 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions
the nats have the fast track
but who knows… we could fall apart… there is always hope!
strasburg isn’t signed yet… what if the nats can’t find a way to get him inked? would they be able to go after harper next year (also a Boras client)
Far fetched scenario of course, but always possible when dealing with the snake
They tried a suicide squeeze
and failed miserably. Lucky for us

yeah me too. It’s not like we have another McCutchen he’s blocking or anything. Just give him a month of solid playing time and see what he can do.

Pearce is looking pretty bad
but he’s gotta be really nervous, finally getting another chance in the ML. Hopefully theyll give him a good chance to prove/disprove himself.

No, but K swinging.
He’s just looked really nervous in the box, understandably.
by DialedtoGiles on Jun 21, 2009 5:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Considering he's playing at 1B
and they probably arent going to bench LaRoche. Maybe after he’s traded, or in RF.

Young got a little bit of bad luck…
He hit a foul ball of his shin and it rolled in the infield and the ump called the ball in play
Ah, okay.
You miss things like that just looking at the boxscore… and I didn’t get home until just a bit back, so I’ve missed all the scoring and everything

was against Willis, when he walked I think 8. More lack of control than good eye by Hinske I think

The 4-walk game and beyond
Hinske since the 4 walk game… 13 at-bats. 2 hits. 1 RBI. 7 Ks (including 2 games with 3 Ks each). Also 0-1 with a K in the 4 walk game

The sad thing
is beyond Pearce we dont really have anyone to replace him. IMO, Young has proven he should be nothing more than a PH/DH. His defense is horrible, and while he has a good bat, not nearly enough power to offset his defense.

If only they would...
although I dont think either of them can really play LF

Ha ha ha...
pitch way down and in (according to gamecast) on an 0-1 count, and Mario obviously swings and grounds out to short.

I guess...
he’s not allowed to face a righty??
Makes sense
I mean Moss shouldn’t be facing lefties either.
JR was forced to use him that way today, and what happened?
Oh wait… he drove in a run…

BTW...
at WV this afternoon…Rudy Owens was perfect through 5 innings with 7 K’s. WV had a 12-0 lead…so that’s all the further he went.
Why did they pinch-hit for Pearce with Adam?

I think it's because
Peralta is right-handed. And JR loves his L/R splits

They obviously want to completely destroy his confidence
and what better way than replacing him with ol’ “Grounder to 2nd” Adam?
by DialedtoGiles on Jun 21, 2009 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Well
they could leave him on the bench for a couple of weeks (I’m sure that’s what they’ll end up doing anyways).
Or trade him to the Nationals for an empty seat.

well
im out here in san diego…i root for a bad team and im surrounded by another…least the suns out and its 75!
We'd better put on a good show
at PNC Park and win the series from Cleveland because the team looks poised for a long losing streak otherwise.
One-Run Games
Bucs have won all of four one-run games so far this season. That’s right, four. That matches Kansas City for the lowest total in such games in all of major league baseball.
It’s only fitting that this horrible series end with a one-run loss.
Bob Seger said it best. Get Out of Denver, Baby. Get Out of Denver.
Dave Edmunds
did a completely rockin’ version of that song.

We do have a few promising young players in Pittsburgh now,
and we’ve been getting some good news from the farm of late, so hopefully there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel to end the losing and have a winner again.
I guess we’ll just have to be patient.
