by steelcity22 on Jun 21, 2009 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions

rather

have him as the other leadoff at the 9 hole to set the table for the top of the order (depending on where you prefer the pitcher hit)

by Green_Wave on Jun 21, 2009 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Does anyone

know D. Young’s average when his pinch hits are taken out of the formula?

by Green_Wave on Jun 21, 2009 3:54 PM EDT reply actions

About the same. He’s hitting .352/.432/.408 as a starter and .350/.409/.500 as a sub.

by shayborg on Jun 21, 2009 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Too bad we can’t get that consistency in the OF

by steelcity22 on Jun 21, 2009 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Gah

this strike zone is really messing with Maholm

by DialedtoGiles on Jun 21, 2009 3:57 PM EDT reply actions

So Young bobbles the ball

which prevents any out from being recorded. But I bet the idiots at pirates.com love him because his average is kinda high.

by ryebr3ad on Jun 21, 2009 4:00 PM EDT reply actions

You’ve got to be kidding me. Not his fault, but on that play Freddy looked like George Michael. “Still doing that, huh?”

by shayborg on Jun 21, 2009 4:01 PM EDT reply actions

Cutch

I assumed Andrew McCutchen would use this year to get his feet wet, learn NL pitchers and ballparks, then truly break out in 2010.

Statistically, I figured a .275/.350/.400 line was reasonable the rest of the way, albeit a best-case kind of deal.

Maybe he read OnlyBucs and got ticked, maybe he was simply bored in Class AAA, because he’s exceeded my expectations: He’s batting .347/.380/.560 and looks like a candidate for NL ROY.

I know all about small sample sizes, but this guy looks like way more than a speedy leadoff type.

He’s got a certain swagger to him, he appears comfortable in almost every at-bat. I know Jorge Bishop is the big story to some, but what McCutchen’s doing is equally as impressive, at least in my eyes.

by Green_Wave on Jun 21, 2009 4:05 PM EDT reply actions

The Dodgers knew from long experience

that Delwyn Young was not an adequate OF, and they moved him away from 2B in the minors so he didn’t get killed on a pivot.

He needs to be our primary PH and nothing more.

by patthatt on Jun 21, 2009 4:05 PM EDT reply actions

I agree.

He’s too much of a liability defensively, and his offense isn’t good enough to move him to first base.

by ryebr3ad on Jun 21, 2009 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions

If Carlos Lee and Adam Dunn can play LF, Delwyn Young should be able to as well. He needs to get his head in the game on defense.

by shayborg on Jun 21, 2009 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions

hes still young though (well nevermind hes gonnna be 27 on the 30th)

by C Los on Jun 21, 2009 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, and how is the K-zone today?

I did turn on the game kinda late…watching Dexter on the computer and forgot about it :). I see Maholm has a crap ton of walks though…inconsistant strike zone, or is Paul just not throwing the ball with any control today?

by ryebr3ad on Jun 21, 2009 4:07 PM EDT reply actions

by Green_Wave on Jun 21, 2009 4:16 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, I’m just watching my fantasy players now too. The Bucs are painful.

by shayborg on Jun 21, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Robinzon Diaz

came to us with a reputation as being stronger with the bat than behind the plate.

The more I watch him, the more holes I see in his D and game calling.

I’m not saying the Bautista trade netted us nothing, not at all. I think Diaz will at least be a serviceable catcher for the next couple of seasons, but not much more.

by patthatt on Jun 21, 2009 4:34 PM EDT reply actions

Oh, he can definitely hit, but his defense is terrible. How many balls in the dirt has he tried to just scoop or pick between Friday and today? Drop to your knees, block the ball, and look like a major league catcher! These are major league baseball players that don’t know fundamentals! It’s embarassing really.

The sad thing

is beyond Pearce we dont really have anyone to replace him. IMO, Young has proven he should be nothing more than a PH/DH. His defense is horrible, and while he has a good bat, not nearly enough power to offset his defense.

One-Run Games

Bucs have won all of four one-run games so far this season. That’s right, four. That matches Kansas City for the lowest total in such games in all of major league baseball.

It’s only fitting that this horrible series end with a one-run loss.

We do have a few promising young players in Pittsburgh now,

and we’ve been getting some good news from the farm of late, so hopefully there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel to end the losing and have a winner again.

I guess we’ll just have to be patient.
