i hope i dont get crucified for saying this but

i think virgil vasquez is goin to be a jeff suppan-like starter, with more occasional big games. he will consistently get quality starts and give the team a chance to win.

IT WAS A GREAT NIGHT FOR THE BUCS! WERE CLIMBING BACK IN THIS THING!

fee fie foh fum. i think i smell the scent of a placenta.

i saw vasquez pitch for indy up here in rochester. great control. the main question is if he’s got enough stuff to fool MLB hitters.

I like the friendship Morgan and McCutchen are building. Nothing like building team chemistry.

mlbtraderumors.com reports...

…that Pirates discussing Morgan for Milledge swap, but Nats declined when Bucs asked for Craig Stammen as well

by phil79 on Jun 26, 2009 11:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Maybe not Stammen

but the Buccos have to get more than just Milledge for NyjMo, don’t they?

NyjMo has been good (above average? average? whatever) this year… Milledge hasn’t taken an at-bat since April. Or is that all irrelevant considering that Milledge has better numbers (at least in some areas) and is 5 years younger?

I would think that is irrelevant...

Milledge’s age alone makes this an interesint proporisiton. The one problem I see is the “attitude” problem. The FO seems to be placing an emphasis on this…see Ian Snell… and I believe Milledge has some attitude baggage coming with him. That being said, I can’t be the only one that doesn’t see Nyjmo as a starter can I? He has definitely exceeded expectations this yeat and performed admirably but I am skeptical that he can keep up his current number on offense let alone improve them. Milledge in LF at PNC gives us a little more upside. I think I would pull the trigger on this one straight up let alone getting a 2nd legitiate prospect on the deal.

No Slick

you aren’t the only one that thinks Morgan shouldn’t be starting on a normal team.

Thunder...

hope that stone passes soon. Get well bro!

by Slick1 on Jun 27, 2009 12:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thanks, Slick

today has NOT been fun…pain meds are a good thing tonight.

Thunder

I had one late last year-one of the reasons I came back to the U.S.

Go easy on the pain meds. I was joking a few weeks back with cocktails about the Vicodin he was taking for his injury, but the stuff is really no joking matter.

I had to wait a few weeks after the RX before I could get the operation to get the stone busted up, and then it took a few more to completely pass it.

Be patient, it will be painful, but don’t overdo it on the meds.

by patthatt on Jun 27, 2009 7:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Trust me...

I’m not hitting the meds very hard. I only have enough to make it thru the weekend…so doubling up on dosage before passing it is NOT a consideration. And the rum bottle is firmly closed until this stuff is done.

I'm taking more meds

than Michael Jackson.

OW!

Arthroscopic surgery tentatively on the 20th July.

beggars can't be choosers

I would not have objected to the Bucs taking a flyer on Elijah Dukes at the time he could have been had cheap. That’s an extreme example, but I don’t think we’re so talent-rich that we ought to be turning our nose up at Milledge because of his (considerable) personal quirk. Can he really hit? I’m more interested in that. Unlike Snell, his quirk doesn’t seem to have a direct impact on his playing ability, and unlike certain makers-of-terroristic-threats-via-voice-mail, his quirk hasn’t yet appeared to attract the attention of prosecutors (unless I missed something).

No you haven't and I agree...

like I said I would have pulled the trigger on this one straight up.

by Slick1 on Jun 27, 2009 12:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Me too. Can’t imagine Morgan mattering when the Pirates are relevant. Milledge far from sure thing, but may be a contributor when the time we can win comes.

Wow, too much to drink tonight...

my spelling is horrible once again. Thanks to everyone for not calling me out on it. Now that I’ve said that, have at it.

Broken Finger

From what I can tell, he hasn’t taken an at-bat in a while because he had a broken finger.

Asking for Stammen might have been a good move. Even though Milledge alone might have been a good deal, there’s plenty of time to wait for a better deal. Might as well see if you can get a great deal now. And if it falls apart, we can still get a great deal later.

by Androgen Jar Jimmy on Jun 27, 2009 1:13 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

wow

Can’t say I blame them. That’s a lot for Nyjer. I’m not sure Milledge for Nyjer straight up wouldn’t be a steal for the PBC. That sounds like a deal Neal would jump on if it was offered.

by KPatrick on Jun 27, 2009 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think you almost have to do Morgan for Milledge if you’re Neal Huntington, right?

by Gorkys n' Beans on Jun 27, 2009 12:36 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We Don't Know What Neal Knows

If he detects widespread interest in Nyjer, then he’s right to wait. He might be able to get a better deal.

Not that I know if there is such interest or not. I’m not Neal either. Just sayin’

Alvarez

0 for 5 with with three K’s.

by Suffering Buc on Jun 27, 2009 12:16 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think he'll be in the show by 2011.

How effective he’ll be IDK…but he’ll be in the show by 2011. I’m sure of it.

by Slick1 on Jun 27, 2009 1:36 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, let's write off Alvarez off,,,

Yeah, let’s write off Alvarez based on one night a day after he hit his second HR and a double at a new, higher level.

The negativity from some here borders on the ridiculous.

by haven on Jun 27, 2009 1:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The problem is

he’s either K’ing or hitting homers.
And unless # HR > # K, we have a problem. (Okay, not really… it’s still early. But still)

Two more errors for him, also.

by Suffering Buc on Jun 27, 2009 1:18 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

As skeptical as I am of Pedro at this point...

…single games don’t really matter. I mean, I was as down on the Sanchez pick as anybody, but I wasn’t doomsaying all over the kid because he made two errors in his first game.

You have to take the mid-to-long view.
