Pirates ship Hinske to the Yankees

According to the PG, the Pirates have traded outfielder Eric Hinske to the New York Yankees for catcher/outfielder Eric Fryer and pitcher Casey Erickson.  Erickson was a 10th round pick in 2006 and is a reliever in A with average numbers.  He has started a couple games and was a starter the previous year.  Fryer was also a 10th round pick (by Milwaukee) in 2007.  He was traded to NY for Chase Wright back in February.  He's been at high A Tampa.  Not much of a year this year, but last season posted good numbers for West Virginia (.914 OPS).  Nothing much to get too excited about, but not a bad haul for Hinske.   We can probably thank Xavier Nady for this.  lol   I guess we will get to see a little more of Steve Pearce now.

Good. Hinske was disappointing. When we signed him in the offseason, I was ecstatic because of the season he had with the Rays the previous season as a utility player where he hit 20 HR. Well, he had gotten more playing time with us and only hit one. But honestly, I think this move was made to see what Garrett Jones could do in the bigs because even though Hinske didn’t show any power, he was having a decent year off the bench with a .255 average. I’m ready to see what Garrett Jones can do. I know he’s older and not really considered a prospect anymore, but the numbers don’t lie. He’s had a phenominal season at Triple-A Indianapolis, hitting .307 with 12 HR. We’ll see what he can do.

I can see that you expected more HRs

but was a fourth/fifth outfielder with a 103 OPS+, you shouldn’t really be disappointed with that.

HRs from Hinske probably would have come with more playing time. I think you will see a bit of a power spike from him now that he is with the Yankees. The new stadium is very hitter friendly…especially for LH hitters.

The only thing I see wrong is that the Bucs had to give the Yankees cash in this deal.

Brakeman:

I also posted this up in the “trade” thread, but don’t know if you’d see it. I owe you bit of an apology form the gamethread the other week.

If you’d like to discuss is, please give me your email addy, or I can give you mine.
