Tyler Yates Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

On his right elbow. This should end the Tyler Yates era in Pittsburgh. Yates would have been eligible for free agency after the 2010 season, and Tommy John surgery takes nine months or more to come back from. Realistically, Yates might not be at full strength until the middle of next season, and he's not worth the trouble of taking to arbitration. He's been bad enough even when healthy.

Yates didn’t really have a place in this bullpen anymore and certainly should not have been part of the plan moving forward. He might have been nice to have around if Capps and Grabow both get traded, but frankly I would rather see Steve Jackson again or even Mike Koplove get a shot.

I have nothing against Yates as a person and I hope he bounces back (with some other team), but I haven’t the slightest doubt that, if he had come back, Russell would immediately have installed him as the top late-inning righty setup guy. Russell and NH have a baffling attraction for the guy that the team has now been rescued from.

Pretty much what WTM said.

I cringed every time he walked in from the pen, and I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery… on someone else’s roster.

Welp

there go our chances this season! :P

I'm droppin' flava, my behavior is hereditary--but my technique is very necessary.

Too bad anyway

I rather enjoyed the start of the Tyler Yates era. We get these little mirages every once in a while, and right out of the gate he looked like a stud. That faded pretty quickly, of course, as will Garret Jones, but it was fun. I know the surgery isn’t what it used to be, but it’s still bad news. Best wishes wherever he winds up.

Give Jones some Credit

I’m sick of hearing about he’s 28 and hasn’t proven himself yet give the man his credit we don’t know that he’s just a mirage yet, the man could be the future first baseman if we trade laroche I’m just saying you can throw him under the bus just yet, lets hope he’s the real deal he never really had the chance to prove himself maybe nows the time.

Five years flailing away at AAA pitching isn’t enough time?

This quarter in my hand is a magic quarter.

I’m sick of hearing about how quarters land on heads 50% of the time and tails 50% of the time it hasn’t proven itself yet give my quarter some credit we don’t know that it’s just a mirage yet, the quarter could be a magic quarter that always lands heads and then I could use it to make bets and fix sporting events and I’d never have to work again, so let’s hope it’s the real deal because I’m really tired of having to earn the things that I want.

Sad, but

Nobody that we bring in (that I can think of) will have a name that rhymes with “Flood Gates.”

It looks like we'll have to make do with Evan Meek...

‘Looking bleak’.

Or maybe Ian Snell – ’What’s that Smell?’.

Oh no!

People writing nasty things about Ian again.

‘Requesting a demotion to Altoona, sir!’

‘Request denied. You’re being traded to Philly as a high upside headcase closer.’

‘Permision to throw Ruiz and Bako under the bus, sir.’

‘Permision granted. We’ll do anything to keep Lidge off the mound.’
