Wilson and Sanchez leaving?? Maybe not.

Post Gazette...Dejan...reporting that the Pirates have approached BOTH Jack Wilson and Freddy Sanchez about multi-year contract extensions. Somewhere in the 3 to 4 year range. It appears that the Pirates are doing this to try to get a resolution before the trade deadline. I think that it has finally occurred to Pirates management that there is likely little or no help for the middle infield for at least the next two seasons. It sounds like the Pirates will try to sign both of them...and Jack reportedly is willing to consider a pay cut.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next 2 weeks. It certainly sounds...from the players side...that it may be both or neither staying.

Good! I’m glad to hear it. One or the other will probably end up getting traded, but I would like to see the Pirates keep these guys around, at least until we get some big league ready replacements at those positions. That could be a couple of seasons unless we do, indeed, trade for some middle infield prospects that are close. I’d love to see a Jack/Freddy tandem in the middle infield for a couple more seasons.

Also...

Maybe NH isn’t getting offered the players, or prospects, in return that he wants when talking to other teams about a possible trade. Huntington isn’t going to give these guys away.

Maybe

Adam LaRoche will heat up (in addition to a timely injury on a contending team) and they can get some value for him.
