Pedro is batting .366 in July

That is some encouraging news, I didn't see if hes strikeout numbers were down but still this is some good shit.  Also Tabata is on an 11 game hitting streak and Lastings Milledge is tearing the cover off the ball.  Im liking everything im seeing down on the farm, hopefully these guys can improve on their numbers and Help out the Ball Club as soon as possible.

Lets hope the Pirates are getting off on the right foot for the second half of the season with last nights Walk-Off

I noticed that Pedro had raised his batting average to somewhere in the .270-.275 range over the last couple of weeks while hovering in the .220’s through most of the season. Its very encouraging. Lets hope he destroys AA pitching the rest of the year and can start at AAA next year.

Indeed.

It seems as though something may be starting to click for the uberprospect. Hopefully this isn’t just a good month and he’ll be able to put up solid numbers the rest of this year. I’d definitely welcome that.

We need Pedro to harness his talent and become an above average middle of the order hitter, or else the competitive team won’t happen any time soon.

Agreed.

No argument from me. This is a thing that needs to happen. Hopefully that’s what he’s doing now.

I 2nd that

If anyone would be considered the key piece to the rebuild it would be Pedro.

Well, I think it’s safe to say that Pedro will be an above average middle of the order hitter.

I don’t think anything is safe to say about Pedro yet. I don’t ever think anything is safe to say about any prospect. Hopefully you’re right, though.

Pedro Alvarez will bat cleanup to open the 2011 season

a lesser outcome would be a severe disappointment

Jones, Pedro, Doumit, Milledge 3-6 in 2011? I like it.

You mean you’ve figured out a way to clone Chipper Jones circa 1999? I’m in!

I like jones just as much as the rest of you...

… but come on. its been a handful of games and already he is our number 3 hitter 2 years from now.

Side note

Why does everyone always have Milledge batting sixth? I think he’d be an awesome two-hole hitter.

By 2011, I’m hoping the lineup looks like this:

McCutchen
Milledge
Tabata
Alvarez
An. LaRoche
Negrych/Ford (assuming either start hitting again.)
D’Arnaud
T. Sanchez
Pitcher

If Negrych or Ford don’t pick it up, either move D’Arnaud up or hope we have a 2B that can hit by then. Maybe D’Arnaud can play 2B and Mercer can play SS. In that case, I’d move D’Arnaud up and put Mercer at 8th.

Pedro was hitting into some bad luck...

…at the start of his time in AA, and in July, he’s been the beneficiary of some good luck. I’m glad that he’s got the high BA this month, but it’s a function of an unsustainable .464 BABIP. He’s still striking out a ton (14K in 45 July AB).

If/When his BA starts inching up from an improved contact rate, that’ll be a real cause for celebration.
