Is Pedro Alvarez on the Move?
Kevin Goldstein reported in Baseball Prospectus today that the general consensus on Pedro is that his power is coming around very well (16 Hrs in 268 A/B) but that he's hitting just .235 with 80 Ks while committing 17 errors. Nobody seemed overly concerned when talking with several scouts about his performance except to say that they overwhelming believe Pedro's future will NOT be at 3B which may not come as a surprise to many fans. However, the scout went on to say that he was concerned about Pedro's size and "...he could see him just getting bigger and bigger in a Mo Vaughn kind way".

About the size: meh.
Yeah, his body portends a Mo Vaughn, David Ortiz type falling off of the cliff at the end of his career, but he won’t be with us when that happens. We’ll have him for 6 years, maybe 7-8 if we’re lucky. In that time, he’ll be an awesome slugger if all goes according to plan. Then we can shop him to some other team and witness the decline from afar.

that sounds about right
even Jonathon Papelbon said in a radio interview that no one stays with the same team for their whole career anymore. If he got the right price to go with the yankees
No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded. - Yogi Berra

Exactly.
Not just in baseball, but in a lot of sports. Wayne Gretzky is probably the greatest hockey player ever and they traded him and he went on to play with two other teams after the trade. Brett Favre is about to take up with team #4 for him. Shaq is on team #5. Babe Ruth played with three different teams. The fact is that players who play for one team for their entire career is rare. I can think of four off the top of my head: Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Jack Wilson and Albert Pujols.

None Of Those Players Are Retired Yet
By the time they’re done, they might play for another team.
Here are some who are retired: Mike Schmidt, Kirby Puckett, Robin Yount, Ted Williams, Craig Biggio, Johnny Bench, Lou Gehrig, Stan Musial.

When I said on the move...
I meant to firstbase and not another team. I think that’s where his future lies which could have something to do with whether or not NH attempts Adam LaRoche or send him packing.

He'll never...
see an inning at 3B in the ML.

I tend to agree with you. The Pirates seem to want to give him every chance to prove himself at 3B and play that position, but in the end, I think he’s going to be the next great slugging 1B in the bigs.

OK, even I’ll admit that the strikeouts look like a serious problem at this point. He’s like a human windmill with that 30% K rate. I hope the 40 home run power and walks come eventually if this is the case.
