Just an Interesting Radar Blip
Perhaps you all remember Dave Williams? He that served as the pinnacle os starting-pitcher mediocrity for the '05 Pirates. As we all know, he bounced to Cincinnati in the Sean Casey trade, then to the Mets, then to the minors (now with the Nats system)...I stumbled across this and couldn't help but share it since it made me laugh.
In last night's game against Toledo, the Chiefs' starter loaded the bases with singles in the third inning, balked in a run, then intentionally walked Jeff Larish to re-load the bases. The Chiefs changed pitchers and brought in Williams, then the fun began.
Williams proceeded to throw eight pitches, three of which were blasted by three consecutive batters for home runs (which accounted for three of the four strikes that appear in his game line) - he then got into an argument (over what I'm not sure, still waiting to get a look at the video) and got ejected.
Again, that's a batter sequence of HR, HR, HR, ejection.
Good to see our former mediocrity spreading its disease all across this great land.

actually
just got to see the video highlights…williams gave up those three HR’s, then his first pitch to the next hitter was inside, and he got tossed. didn’t hit the batter, no prior warning, just gone.
according to toledo’s PBP guy, he was “obviously” throwing inside on purpose (whatever).
by the way, Williams gave up those three HR’s to Toledo’s 7-8-9 hitters.

In other former worthless Pirates news...
Former Pirates reliever Jonah Bayliss was aquired by the Seibu Lions from the Toronto Blue Jays.

I wish that YouTube video of Ryan Vogelsong's huge HR were still up.
This would be the perfect place to link it.

B-R gives you two years to get back to the bigs.
If you don’t manage in that time, you get the “final game” note.
Some guys make it back from being B-R retired.

I always liked Dave Williams
He was a pretty solid lefty before he hurt his arm. Anybody else remember his season at Hickory in 2000? 2.96 ERA, 193 K in 170 IP. If you add in the numbers from his two starts at Altoona in the same year, he led the entire organized minors with 201 K. Not too shabby.
He used to use “Hash Pipe” by Weezer as his intro music, and the audio guys had to cut it really quick before it got into the drug stuff, which is against MLB guidelines.
