MLB Trade Rumors thinks that Freddy will go next. They mention three names in connection to the trade and I must say that at least one of the names injects some confusement into what we are doing. The three names mentioned are:
John Bowker, a 26-year old left-handed 1B who has some power potential. In AAA this year he’s shown a reasonable strikeout to walk ratio (1:1), some speed (10 stolen bases), and some power (17 Homeruns, .612 slugging). In essence, he is the Lefty McThump we thought we were getting when we traded for Adam LaWhiff (how’s he doing anyway?).
Kevin Frandsen, a 27-year old 2B/SS. With five years in the Minors, he is still not to the bigs and he looks old to me. He’s hitting .301 in AAA, but has a 2:1 K/walk ratio and limited power (.444 slugging).
Jesus Guzman, a 25-year old 3B. He’s been in the minors since 2001, which means he started there when he was 17 years old. He’s seen as a back-up since Ryan Garko got traded to San Fran. Looks like he’s been riding the pine this year, last year in the minors (mostly AA) he batted .363 with 14 home runs).
I don’t see where adding Bowker makes sense after the Wilson trade and I’m sure it’s a safe bet that we won’t get all three of the above listed players for Freddy. Anyone want to show their prescience (that’s the ability to see into the future, for those from the Squirrel Hill area) and name the upcoming deal?
