Salary Dumps?

This is for all the pundits and fans that are screaming and whining about the trades being merely salary dumps in order to line the pockets of an avaricious owner. Let's go back to yesteryear, shall we, and take a look at all the 'Salary Dupes' created and fostered by previous management that helped put us in the position we are today.

Matt Morris                    Salary Dump?                      Nope, duped bugtime to the tune of over $11m.

Jason Kendall             Salary Dump?                      Please! An outrageous $60m contract for this guy? Definitely duped.

Derek Bell                    Salary Dump?                      Hell no!  The good 'ole 'Operation Shutdown' for $4.5m.

Pat Meares                  Salary Dump?                      Yes, we dumped about $8m into his lap to do nothing.

Kevin Young                Salary Dump?                      Again, we deposited about $3mil in his account for nothing.

Kris Benson                Salary Dump?                      No, but we all wished Anna were dumped into our laps.

These are just a few examples of exorbitant contracts, bad contracts, and contracts we've had to swallow that have had to handicap the ballclub severely to this day. So, the real question is this: have we made salary dumps or have we been dumped on by the ineptitude of Bonifay, Littlefield and company?  The latter is the only answer to this question!

Exactly.

The ignorant tend to look at payroll only. Let’s not forget our frivolous spending on Burnitz, either. Didn’t he get a cool eight million?

Burnitz!!!

Sorry, forgot about him. I believe that he got in the vicinity of $6m. And that guy probably made the most prescient comment ever about the sad state of Bucco affairs. He was looking miserable at the plate, striking out a lot and hitting around .220. A reporter asked him if he expected to get benched as a result of this. His response, and I’m paraphrasing: ‘Are you kidding me? With the kind of money I am making they have to play me!’

UGH

Just reading those names and having to re-live them makes my head hurt. Thank God for NH!

Wow

I think a small piece of me just died inside upon reading these names…

The glare of the spotlight is harsh, and the pressure that success breeds immense. We revere our heroes, but expect much. And criticism can come as easily as praise.

But That Was My Point...

I had to take a shower after posting that so I know how you feel.

C'mon

Let’s play the game of Heartbreakers and Cashtakers.

I really think it goes all the way back to bringing back Hebner. Didn’t that happen?

I’ll begin with Steve Kemp, Amos Otis, Sixto Lezcano, George Hendrick, Steve Kemp, Chad Hermanson, Keith Farris, Sammy Kahlifa, Tim Foli (wasn’t he brought back?), Jumpin Johnny Lemaster and who was that shortstop we got from Seattle in the late ’80’s? I think it was right after Al Pedrique.

Please add to the list, I’m getting all mashugna thinking about it.
