Commish costs Bucs 2 signess
Rocco Demaro says that MLB delaying the signing process costed the team 2 more signings. If that's the case, then that sucks.

the Yinzers don't care
They’ll still say the Bucs either didn’t sign enough nor spent enough.
Yeah...
I checked in on PBC and that doofus Nutting Hostage keeps harping on the fact that NH initially said they would sign 28…he demands to know why they didnt acheive their own stated goal. Of course he also thinks that STL signing the number they did (43 or something?) must be good prima facia.
WTM waded into the fray in an attempt to drop some sanity into the discussion but to no avail…It doesnt occur to these people that you have to place the draftees somewhere and there are only so many slots where they can get some playing time. I am sure that some of the deadwood currently in the system will get cut shortly but not enough to counter balance the 30-40 they think should have been signed.
As it is they are piggybacking starters in SC and WV so that players can get their work in.
OMG Nutting Hostage!
I hate that dude. I think he’s also on the Pirates Fan Forums (on their site). Sometimes I go there for a good chuckle… They put together a petition to get Nutting to resign as owner. I laughed so hard I couldn’t breath and I was crying like crazy!
who?
Anyone know who these potential signees were? I’m guessing Michael Heller was one, based on his glowing comments about the Pirates organization.
I refuse to believe that any of this is true...
…until I see it somewhere other than Twitter.
Sorry, it’s just my policy. Twitter = lies.
Heh, never mind.
Just found a real source.
Huntington: We are pleased overall at the outcome of the Draft. We would have liked to have added a few more players, but we lost some in the delay of the signing process, and we had others whose [asking price] increased after the Draft. Overall, though, we are very pleased to add a quality amount of talent to the system. -Q&A, MLB.com
Well, that sucks.
Perrotto confirms, too:
The Pirates came close to signing three more players, who General Manager Neal Huntington declined to name, before the midnight Monday deadline for draft picks to sign but deals fell through. – John Perrotto, Tribune-Democrat
I just posted
the one that came first…even it it was just a Tweet. Rocco’s a pretty reliable source.
IDK Who
the pirates were supposedly close to signing but I read somewhere that both Michael Heller and Luquette the catcher are going to be having major surgeries so i doubt they would have been signed. it is possible the pirates would have tried to sign an injured player to get him cheap with a potential upside but the players probaly realize that with an injury that they have a lot to gain by having surgery, going to school and getting drafted a few years in the future.
Chuck Finder wrote that.
I wasn’t sure whether he was speculating or reporting, though. I mean, Luquette had his surgery well before the draft, and in fairly public fashion. If they weren’t willing to sign an injured player under any circumstances, they probably wouldn’t have drafted Luquette in the first place.
