Neil Walker Update

After another solid game last night (2-4, 2 doubles), I figured it was time to check on Neil's more recent numbers. As you'll recall, he spent the middle of the season injured (knee, and also sprained left pinkie). He started out pretty cold on his return - 2 weeks of 0-fors and 1-fors. But he had a four game tear at the end of July and has been hitting well since then - .370/.395/.685, with 11 doubles, 4 HRs, 3 walks, and 13 Ks in 76 TPA.

Small sample size and all that, but it's been three weeks of pretty solid hitting from a guy who hasn't done that much. If he manages to keep this up to the end of the season, I have to think that it nudges him back towards legitimate prospect - he's still only 23. Next year remains make-or-break for him, but it would probably do him some good to go into the offseason on a strong note (given that he missed 5 weeks, I wonder if he has winter ball in his future).
