The Deal On Doumit?
It looks like the players and management have circled the wagons thus far in releasing information on JR pulling Ryan Doumit last night in the fifth inning. Who knows what happened but it certainly had to be an egregious offense to tick off someone as unflappable and mild mannered as JR. It's only speculation on my part but I think that Ryan has aways had his heart and soul in this team. The rash of injuries that he's suffered have played a big role in curtailing his once promising career which inevitably leads to a bruised attitude as well. Since he has invested so much emotionally in this team and, after watching his friends and teammates being traded, I surmise that he felt like the heir apparent as the leader of the Bucs. Yet with his lack of production and the emergence of Andrew and Jones, he may have felt this leadership role slipping away and the frustration resulted in doing something uncharacteristic last night. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Prima Donna
Not hitting, being phased out in the clubhouse by Cutch, Jones, and Milledge, whining and crying because he’s not the center of attention.
That would be my guess…
I think that he must have said something to someone or disparaged the team’s chances of winning. Just speculation at this point though.

Sportsmanship
Doumit was yelling at Macha when LaRoche was IBBed in the 1st. Doumit was frustrated and he did not let it go. Three weak swings later, he was pulled.
A culture of winning, or a culture of creating headcases?

When.....
Doumit didn’t hustle down the line in what turned out to be a double play against Nationals a few weeks ago and Doumit said Adam Dunn was blocking the bag, I was shocked. But, I clearly thought it was a one-off thing and I was more than happy to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Well now it certainly appears that it wasn’t a one off thing. And I just don’t have time for guys getting paid and not hustling. And if it is that he “isn’t buying into the rebuilding plan,” then I don’t even know what to say.
My thoughts?
He is a whiny bitch that has his feelings hurt because his BFF were traded. He needs to grow up and produce. He should worry more about his lack of ability behind the plate and his atrocious hitting this year.
Hi all
First post so here goes. I think this all boils down to Doumit’s own lack of production. If Ryan was raking right now all of the excuses wouldn’t be there. He’d be helping his young teammates win and would feel more a part of everything. So basically he needs to man up, stop the excuses, and start getting the job done.
Ya Know
I’m amazed that Doumit has only played in 49 games this year…..who would have ever predicted that? Let’s not run him out of town yet. Sure a poor year, but WOW, the fragile basta** has not had a year at all…..maybe send him to Arizona Fall Ball??
I agree.
He shouldn’t be run out of town but in order for him to be effective we really need a career year out of him. But to achieve that he needs to stay healthy and be in the lineup for 130 games or so. You have to ask when and if that will ever happen.
I think...
…it’s stupid to speculate when nobody actually knows anything.
This is psychology again. Leave it to the psychologists.
