In case no one caught it...
GCL Pirates finished their season with a 2-1 loss today. The one run was a HR by Gift Ngoepe…his 1st professional HR. The first 2 innings were the first professional pitching stint for Zach Von Rosenberg. Three ground outs, a pop out to the catcher and 2 K’s.
I’m going to post about this after the game.

Sorry if I stole any thunder, Charlie.
I was surprised that it hadn’t gotten any mention anywhere that I could find.
No apology necessary; you’re always welcome to post these things here. In fact, I hadn’t noticed that Von Rosenberg started until you mentioned it.

good to see ZVR
debut on a good note!

Uh oh
Cueto’s just coming off the DL today and he’d lost his last six decisions before going on the DL.
I foresee a no-hitter.
Lineups
Cutch CF
Young 2B
Jones RF
Doumit C
Pearce 1B
Moss LF
Cedeno SS
Vazquez 3B
Maholm P
Stubbs CF
Janish SS
Votto 1B
Phillips 2B
Rolen 3B
Gomes RF
McDonald LF
Miller C
Cueto P
I assume just getting the second game of the doubleheader off for rest. Surprised Moss gets to start both and not Edge, but no big deal. No way in hell JR woulda given GJones a rest
Clement still out of the lineup for Indy...
Powell getting the start on the bump. Brian Myrow was the IL player of the week.
NH has basically nuked the Indy pitching staff. In their game notes…the probable starting pitchers for the next 5 games after tonight are all TBA.
D Cutch
For those who were able to watch Game 1…how did McCutchen look?

Yeah
settled down nicely after first couple innings. last two he was throwing a nasty split finger that dropped off the table. Very nice debut.

The home/road splits this team has produced this year still amaze me.
Home record: 35-29
Road record: 18-47
Home BA: .274
Road BA: .236
Home ERA: 3.67
Road ERA: 5.44
Every stat is like this, which is obviously why they’re road record is so bad. But I dont understand how they can play over .500 ball at home and just be horrendous on the road. Any ideas why?
Young team not used to road surroundings? Young team more comfortable at home? A bad team that just seems to play over their head at home? Or the obvious answer – there is no explanation?
v unlike maholm to give the game away early like this
either he gives up lots of runs once the pirates score a few, or he turns in a quality start but gives up enough to lose…
this is charlie morton-esque a couple of starts ago
So what did Moss do in game 1 to earn a second start?
Did he hit the ball hard? Interesting that he gets benched after good games but rewarded with another start after an 0-4. Not complaining, just curious if he looked better than the line.
Don’t forget that JR has publicly stated that he and Varsho make up the lineup days in advance.
So it doesn’t matter what Moss did in his first game.
Of course no manager in 140 years of BB has done this, but that’s because JR is smarter than all them. Plus it lets him get in that important pre-game nap that he needs before his in-game nap.
ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Maholm was in the minors...
we’d be into the bullpen right now. And we might be soon…anyway.
Is gameday wrong...
or has Maholm been throwing just about all curve balls to the last couple batters??
I’ve never seen that in my life….
Cueto just walked away cuz he thought it was strike 3 but the ump called it a ball and Cueto had to walk back with a smile
LOL!

White Sox running up the white flag.
They have…
“distributed a memo to a number of teams in the league informing them that a number of Chicago veterans are available in trade.”
Dye, Thome, Linebrink, Konerko and Dotel.
You'd better believe
Chicago sports radio has been ablaze about this for the last hour and a half before the Sox game…

Not the first time
the White Sox have ever run up the white flag at the end of August.
It's a joy to live in Chicago
…and not like any of the teams.
Well, the Blackhawks are okay, but not my faves…

But they’re now subject to The Curse Of Hossa, so I don’t think that leaves them in great shape either.
Oh, I watch 'em
cause they’re the only game in town.
As for me, GO HABS GO!

Especially...
as rarely as they win championships (excluding the MJ Bulls).
No, that makes it
all the sweeter to listen to them whine….

Jeebus -
this may be the quickest I’ve ever tuned in – and then OUT – of a game.
Dunno if I can watch this – especially on Lameday…

Howcum
everyone’s baggin’ on Doumit? He’s only played like, what, 70 games?

I propose
we just play out the rest of the season in double-headers so we can end the agony twice as fast :/
I'm droppin' flava, my behavior is hereditary--but my technique is very necessary.
Another homer by Phillips?
eff. this.sheaut.
Adios, gang. Whatever there is left of you.

Oh, wait.
foul ball?
Okay – I’ll stay.

this is crazy boring
unless something happens to light a spark, the bucs have packed it in, and the reds want to get good swings in, and are doing it…
I GUESS
they are trying to save the bullpen…heaven knows for what…though.
Unfortunately...
the bright spot is just about like a helmet light in a coal mine. Lotsa dark.
Cutch = canary in a coal mine.

I hope not...
if there’s a problem in the coal mine…the canary dies.
I think
you catch my drift…

At Altoona...
Moskos…6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 2 HR. Yes, that’s an 8 and not a zero for strikeouts.
Pedro 2-3. Altoona down 4-1.
At SC...
Irwin got lit up for 4 in the first. Pereira in relief has thrown 4 innings…0 H, 2 BB, 9 K. SC now up 7-4 in the 6th.
At least
we now have a game. 2 for 1 switch coming??
Dude...
his ERA is STILL 0.00… give him a chance…

Season ends...
for Indy, Altoona, Lynchburg and West Virginia on Monday. Lynchburg playoff series starts Wednesday of next week. WV pretty much needs a miracle to make the playoffs…as they are 4.5 back with a week left.
I'd say Indy is out of pitchers.
Chris Barnwell…a utility man…pitched a scoreless top of the ninth for Indy…with Indy trailing 3-2. A hit…2 walks and a strikeout.
Of course...
Murphy’s law says that Indy will tie it and they will go extras.
The paid attendance for this game is actually lower than what they announced for game 1. There are legitimately nearly 10x the number of people there this game.
Indy loses...3-2...
with a whopping 3 hits.
Altoona loses 4-3. Pedro ends up 2-4…BA .333…OBP .418…SLG .590 for an OPS of 1.008 with the Curve.
Overall...Pedro...
in 541 plate appearances (give or take a couple)
BA .288
OBP .378
SLG .535
OPS .913
HR 27
RBI 95
BB 71
K 129
Not a bad 1st season.
He really slowed the K rate a bit in the second half. Still high but trending in the right direction.
WTF?
Why would Russell not pull Chavez? His throwing hand was damage,.. everytime I gain some respect and like for JR, he does something dumb.
Anyways, two more losses in the Bryce Harper watch.
Sure would be nice...
….I’m starting to wonder if maybe someone didn’t pack the Jolly Roger for the road trip.
Well, not a great day to be a Bucs fan.
Getting swept in a twin bill by the Reds is certainly depressing.
