Snell, Gorzo
Ian Snell pitched 6 strong 3 hit innings, giving up 2 runs on 2 solo shots while striking out 4 and walking 3, pretty strong start for him.
Tom Gorzelanny is joining the cubs rotation soon
Its kinda weird to me that gorzo is in the starting rotation for the contending cubs but couldn't make it in our rotation over Virgil Vazquez
I believe in NH and company, and i believe we shoulda got rid of snell because he wore out his welcome, but i think we could build a contending rotation with gorzo as a 2 or 3

I’m with you. Snell had to go, and I’d rather have Jeff Clement’s power even though the Pirates (like the Mariners) have no place to play him right now.
The Gorzo dump was a bit more of a head-scratcher, especially since we got nothing enticing in the return package. We probably could have gotten most of that package for just Grabow alone. That Cubs trade is the deal I was least pleased with in the past 2 years from Huntington.

i agree
but i have to say there must have been a break with the management somewhere, something we are not aware of.
I had read somewhere about a Gorzo-Joe Kerrigan rift as the root- dont remember where, and dont know if its credible, but I cannot imagine that Gorzo was dumped for no reason. That said, Hart and Ascanio seem like people who might be able to hold it together as well as Gorzo, but this is the one trade that might blow up for NH
Josh Harrison
He’s a little vertically challenged but he could be the sleeper in this deal. Of course, I’ve been guilty of so much wishful thinking on potential sleepers over the past 17 years, I have probably built up a backlog of power naps for the next century.
and Ascanio
and if Harrison amounts to anything…and if Gorzo continues success. Actually, just reserve judgement for a while.

It may have been for making faces like this while pitching...

I think people who are projecting Gorzo as a #2 in the future...
…are excessively optimistic about his prospects.
We should have traded for Yusmerio Petit....
since we are basing all of our analysis on one outing by Snell and Gorzo……
at least Petit
has had two good outings…

Let's see how Hart and Ascanio have done for us
time next year as compared to Gorzo’s production and tally up the scores.
I don’t care that Gorzo had one good start for the Cubs. Geez, he was pitching against a team that’s almost 0 for the past two weeks.
I thought Gorzo would’ve been a good candidate to slip into Grabow’s spot for the next year plus, but obviously NH/FC decided to go a different route.
Let’s see how things play out.
As far as Snell goes, screw him. The more astute members of BD who know the players we received for him and Jack seem pretty satisfied with our haul, so I’m going to take a wait-and-see attitude with this deal as well.
I still like the overall performance of NH/FC et al. over the past couple of years.
