Mpho "Gift" Ngoepe
Terrific article about the South African second baseman who is playing in Bradenton. SI always does good work on stories like this.

give this kid all the support you can, the article describes him as he is. A rare diamond.
I watched him grow up playing cricket with us at the Randburg Cricket Club before we lost him completely to you baseball guys. Go Gift, we’re all proud of you!!!

i can't wait for him to get up to WV
I think he will be in for a culture shock that not even playing bradenton can prepare for him. Also I want to see if he gets his purple, lime green and baby blue glove.

Holy crap
West Virginia would definitely be a culture shock. I didn’t even think of that.

culture shock for all players
other than those from the appalichian mountains area is. We play Bluegrass loudly at all times you know that guys from the domenican or california area just like what is going on what is this stuff being played loudly and why does it suck but eventually they get used to it I guess, its Old Crow Medicine Show good band you should take a listen to them.

Come on
Charleston is no different than alot of midsize cities from across the country. The only difference is the mountains. I like it at least. And I hate country.

Maybe he means if Gift happens to make a "Wrong Turn".

culture shock from South Africa
he is going from a place where they they run for their lives from tiger to a place where we run from our lives from Meth Heads who live in White Trash Cities Trailer Parks and where we crank Blue Grass before games loudly, I like the mountains it adds a little mixture to the landscape i hate places where its flat, too boring for me

OCMS
old crow is badass… they have quite the following out here in colorado. their remake of bob dylan’s wagon wheel is as popular as anything john dever has done. my favorite bluegrass band is a group outta kansas called Split Lip Rayfield. check em out…. their bass player plays a homemade one string bass made from 1/2 of a car gas tank, a piece of wood bolted to it and a weed whacker string….and it sounds fantastic

OCMS at the Beacon
I wanted to catch OCMS at the Beacon last Thursday, but couldn’t make it…….
I have heard of Split Lip Rayfield, but have not heard them…… Definitely have to move them up on bands I want to check out.
