Pretty much

a normal Sunday lineup where about half the bench gets exercised (or should it be exorcised??).

by Thunder on Sep 6, 2009 1:21 PM EDT reply actions

Luigi and Walker seem to be splitting time about 70/30, which is more than Walker deserves.

by shayborg on Sep 6, 2009 1:30 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s more than either of them “deserve” but somebody’s got to play 3B for this team.

by maguro on Sep 6, 2009 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Luigi’s been significantly better than Walker this year.

by shayborg on Sep 6, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

(Not that it’s saying much.)

by shayborg on Sep 6, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Perrotto column on the last 17 years.

LaRoche has the 2nd worst batting average and 4th worst OPS of all Pirates hitters since 1993 with at least 500 Plate Appearances.

by IAPiratesFan on Sep 6, 2009 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Luigi hasn't been significantly better...

than any major league 3B this year…which is all we should be concerned about.

by Thunder on Sep 6, 2009 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions

First pitch double to left for Lugo. Nice.

by shayborg on Sep 6, 2009 1:36 PM EDT reply actions

Holy crap. Jaramillo throws it over Maholm and Lugo goes home from third.

Actually.

Right now, Hanrahan is pitching well enough to pitch to Pujols. Not sure about the rest of the staff.

by IAPiratesFan on Sep 6, 2009 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Nice job by Hanrahan

Morgan/ Burnett trade looking pretty good right now.

Two solid innings

But they weren’t exciting, sparkpluggy innings!

Question

About last night…..

Did Ohlie do something last night that had never been done before by striking out the side on 9 pitches with all 3 putouts by the First Baseman? If so we could do something two days in a row that have NEVER been done in the HISTORY of baseball.

At least we have that goin for us.

by 1STstate bucco on Sep 6, 2009 4:12 PM EDT reply actions

Prediction:

Andrew McCutchen walk off home run.

by IAPiratesFan on Sep 6, 2009 4:20 PM EDT reply actions

NO BUNT!

didn’t work last night!

by jonoz13 on Sep 6, 2009 4:20 PM EDT reply actions

Blass

“Smart of Pujols to know they had a catcher running at 1st.”

Sadly, JR apparently wasn’t aware of this.

by cocktailsfor2 on Sep 6, 2009 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

THis probably only shows how horribly jaded I am

But while the win was nice I couldn’t help but think it was too bad that Jones only got credit for a single on that game winner

by Schide on Sep 6, 2009 4:34 PM EDT reply actions

Chavez

off the hook for the loss, gets the win.

Wow.

Some thoughts on the game:

Andrew McCutchen needs to work on his throwing in the offseason. He throws too many rainbows.

I really hope we get lucky and have found a solid contributor for the next few years in Garrett Jones. I’ll really be curious to see how he starts next season.

Finally, I really wish MLB would go to a 26-man roster to allow teams an extra position player to offset the use of 12 or even 13-man pitching staffs in recent years. There are too many times, especially in NL games, that the need for another bench guy is apparent.
