he will NOT be referred to as immature because of anything he does this season!

I predict .283/.339/.428 for Milledge, which I think would be a good season. I think he may end up with a slightly higher SLG, but that depends on his conditioning and how his injury has healed.

If we’re talking about actions that Milledge will do this this year to be called immature, then I’ll say 0. But, if talking about his past is included, then I’ll say four, all from Ron Cook and the infamous P-G blogger.

And how about as a just-for-fun bonus, we predict (in a “wildly guess” kind of way) Milledge’s UZR? I’ll say 3.4.

Like most people on here…I don’t think he will be called immature in the present tense. However, I expect to here about his past at least 15-20 times.

by northsidenotch on Jan 31, 2010 6:09 PM EST reply actions

That’s what I also meant with my choice of 12 times: the same windbag columnists Smizik and Cook bringing up his “troubling record” over and over again.

I’d tend to agree, the meme will be about how how he’s grown up, working hard, finally gets it, etc regardless of whether or not that entirely reflects reality. Although, so far he’s given us no reason to think it won’t, and I’m certainnly hoping that continues to be the case.

Perhaps the real question is how many times will his shoes be a topic of discussion.

Although I understand it would take a big spike in the SLG% because of his free swinging approach holding down his OBP. But I’m goin’ bold with this one….

.292/.354/.455

I believe there will be zero references to immaturity in the present tense, but because of his complete turnaround in terms of his maturation process “immature” will be used often to describe his past… I’ll say 12 times.

P.S. Do all tenses of the root word “immature” count?

Out of idle curiosity, is there a way to come up w/OPS and slugging (other than just grabbing random numbers) w/out doing a lot of reverse calculus?

Any mention of immaturity will be coupled with the phrase “that is clearly in his past” or the phrase “how did the Mets and Nats let this kid go?” as he hits 40+ doubles and 15+ home runs.
