Pirates Interview Former Blue Jays Manager Carlos Tosca
According to Rob Biertempfel, the Pirates interviewed former Toronto Blue Jays manager Carlos Tosca for John Russell's vacant position. Tosca managed the Jays from 2002-2004 with a perfectly even 191-191 record and three third place finishes. He's been a coach with the Marlins for the last four seasons and was recently hired by Fredi Gonzalez to coach for the Braves.
UPDATE by Charlie: Tosca has never played professional baseball, but he's been coaching or managing professionally since 1978, so he has a ton of experience.

bah
another average manager but deffinitly better the russel but, i am still in favor of eric wedge, atleast he had some winning seasons.
age of last winning season: 5
uhh no
it was my opinion , just like red is better then yellow, no proof to back that up
age of last winning season: 5
Maybe I saw something wrong
But I am 99.9 % sure Tosca was just made Fredi Gonzalez bench coach in Atlanta. Mr.Chino Cadahia was cut loose along with Glenn Hubbard. Pendleton got moved to 1st.
Not sure why he interviewed in Pittsburgh then ?

He’s one of the 7 managers in MLB history who has never played professional baseball. Really there have only been 6. One of them was Ted Turner when he made himself the manager of the Braves for 1 game.
Agreed
It’s an interesting statistic. But who cares?
Most managers played in MLB for a short time.
Ted Williams is the exception rather than the rule.
I have no problem with a career minor league guy managing the Pirates.
That being said, Tosca wouldn’t be at the top of my list.
Tosca
This is a very shrewd move by the Pirates’ front office. Anticipating a dropoff in season tickets next year, the Pirates are going after well-heeled opera fans by hiring Tosca in the hope that they become confused.
If that angle doesn’t work, they are going to substitute postgame Skyblast concerts with abbreviated postgame opera performances.
Nobody gets to leave PNC until the fat lady sings.
Wait a minute....
he was never with the Indians organization, was he?
Tragic Outcomes
Is this not what the Pirates are all about?
Eric Wedge - Mariners
Just heard that Eric Wedge will be the next manager for Seattle. Cross him off the list.
Is that final?
ESPN says it is likely but not a done deal.
Hetman's Twitter says:
“mariners have settled on eric wedge to be their next manager. story up soon on si.com.”
Valentine
Bob Smizik has made his choice.
Now if only the front office has the intelligence to follow through and immediately name him manager.
Of course, I think NH and FC are far too smart to do that.
But it’ll give Bob something to whine about for the next three years.
