Another candidate out of the running
Dale Sveum can be dropped out of the running to be selected as Pirates manager. He informed a Milwaukee radio station that he has signed a 2 year contract to continue as the Milwaukee Brewers hitting coach.
Obviously...with all of the previous applicants dropping like flies...it's becoming fairly apparent that the next Pirates manager is likely to come from one of 4 teams...Yankees...Rangers...Giants and Phillies.

Does anyone have any insight on how the Pena era ended in KC? Did he just basically quit during the middle of the year? A lot of people seem to blast him for that, but hell, Leyland did the same thing in Colorado.
He quit because...
…his name came up in a really ugly and public divorce proceeding, and he didn’t want to be a distraction to the team. IIRC, he was (allegedly) having an affair with the wife of a neighbor, and the jilted husband named Pena in court filings as the guy who broke up his marriage and put his name on the witness list, or something along those lines.
Does this mean
We are looking at Tony Pena, Ron Wotus( the long time bench coach), Pete Mackanin, or maybe as a dark horse Clint Hurdle ?? Any other thoughts I know Ron Roenicke is a favorite on here to.

Hmm.
Hurdle would seem like the only obvious candidate from the Rangers. In addition to Mackanin, the Phillies have Davey Lopes and Sam Perlozzo on their staff, both of whom have managed in the majors in the past. After Wotus, the Giants also have Hensley Meulens, who might be worth keeping in mind in that he was formerly a coach in our system, something that seems like it may have been a factor in the decision to interview Sveum. Pena is the Yankees option that jumps out at me, though I know one or two people here also mentioned Kevin Long as a possibility.
As far as guys managing in the minors for those teams… nobody really obvious. Dave Miley (the Yankees’ AAA manager) managed the Reds for about two years (across three seasons) in the early part of this decade. I watched a bunch of games around then, but remember literally nothing about him as a manager. I’ve seen Steve Decker (the Giants’ AAA manager) mentioned a few times as a possible heir apparent for their ML job, but I don’t know whether it’s actually true, and he looks like a guy who might need a few more years to grow into the job.
